Tops at SSP on Saturday Night in the Late Models
Next Test & Tune at SSP on

Newberrytown,
PA (August 3, 2013) – An action-packed night of racing at the Susquehanna
Speedway Park on Saturday night, August 3 had eleven great features which
included three makeups postponed from June 29 due to rain. Racing action on the “Outback Track” was
Friday night, August 2 were held under almost deal weather conditions on a very
fast racetrack.
In
Late Model action, Chris Knopp of Fawn Grove led from start-to-finish to taking
the 25-lap victory, with pressure from runner-up Justin Ehrhart throughout the
entire event. It was Knopp’s first win
of the season. Chase Billet and Billy
Wampler battled for the third spot throughout the race as well with Wampler
besting Billet for the spot at the end.
Matt Murphy returned after a long hiatus since April this season to round
out a strong fifth place finish. Tim
Murphy was the JR’s Paving Hard Charger by finishing eighth after starting in
14th. Heat race wins went to
Murphy and Randy Christine Jr.
The
special $1,000-to-win found Huntingdon’s Bill Henney taking the victory over Dan
Zechman, Henney made the winning pass on
lap fifteen of the 20 lapper coming off turn two after stalking Zechman since
lap four. Scott Thunberg, starting his
his 200th consecutive Street Stock feature event at SSP finished in
third. Jasen Geesaman won the special
Hard Charger award by finishing fourth after starting scratch on the twentieth
spot. Jaynee Zeigler capped of a
memorable night in fifth. Heat race
winners included Zeigler, Zechman and Mike Kiehl. Kiehl set a new 8-lap Street Stock track
record with a time of 2:51.09.
In
the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car nightcap, Lancaster’s Donnie Broderick got back on
the winning track with a victory over Chad Stine. Stine held off the numerous challenges of
third place finisher Cameron Benyouw who was also the Madison House East Hard
Charger coming from the ninth starting spot.
Tim Hahn and John Frye finished close behind by rounding out the top
five. Broderick and Dan Snyder won their
respective heat races.
Earlier
in the evening, York’s Tim Hahn won his first Xtreme Stock feature of the year
in the postponed race from June 29. Hahn
passed Benyou on lap 13 to take the win.
Benyou claimed the runner-up spot over Rich Lomman, John Frye and Donnie
Broderick.
The
15-lap Road Warrior feature found Dallastown’s Ricky Weaver Jr. taking his
career first victory at the Newberrytown oval besting the division’s past track
champions Daryl Sipe and Curt McDade.
Jeff Foster finished fourth with Robert Wellman coming across the line in
fifth. Weaver and Travis Brown were heat
race winners.
The
postponed Road Warrior feature from June 29 saw another Lebanon’s Cory Phillips
adding a new name to the winner’s list after he bested Dennis Dorosz and Daryl
Sipe. Rounding out the top five was Curt
McDade and Thomas Thompson.
The
Mini Van feature found Mountville’s Donny Groff taking the victory over Zakari
Kitner and John Kitner. Earlier in the
night, Kitner won the postponed make-up feature over Groff with John Kitner
taking third once again.
The
12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature saw Aaron Brommer’s three year dominance come
to an end when he was beat by Vince Gagliardo.
Brommer took the runner-up spot, followed by Brian Gagliardo, Paul
Hoffman and Scott Rickrode.
The
first-ever appearance of the “Blast From the Past” Vintage Cars found Brian
Gagliardo taking the checkers in 15-lap feature event over John Costa and Ron
Phillips. Kevin Kuser and Jack
Reifsnyder rounded out the top five.
In
the most exciting and action-packed Figure 8 Race to date, Ricky Weaver Jr. took
the lead from Thomas Thompson on lap 3 to take the win. Thompson finished the wild race in second,
followed by Dennis Dorosz, John Drummer and Roy Denike.
The next
Wednesday Night Test & Tune for any type of racecar will be on Wednesday, August 7. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with
practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The
cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar
entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Each session will be 4-6 laps per session
depending on car count. The grandstands
are open free to the public. Each class
will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 4/6 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts
will not be open. Anyone needing fuel
should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open
throughout the night.
Also on
Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts
and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track.
The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to
9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per
driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit”
areas. All Outback Track participants
should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big
Track.”
On
Friday night, August 9 the fifth
night of the Summer Shoot-Out Series will be held at the SSP Outback Track for
quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars.
The pit gates will open 5:45 p.m. with a driver’s meeting at 7:20
p.m. Open practice begins at 7:00 p.m.
and racing action begins at 7:30 p.m.
The entry fees
for each class will be $20.00 per entry for drivers with the seasonal
(Spring/Summer) license. Pit pass fees
for the driver are included in the entry fee.
Non-license driver’s entry fees will be $25.00. Participants may enter more than one class on
a raceday ($12.00 for each additional class).
Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each class regardless of
class entry count. No participants will be denied racing as
SSP will make every effort to define a class for all drivers who wish to
compete.
Pit pass prices
for non-drivers at the Outback Track will be $8.00 for everyone ages 18 &
older; Teens & Children ages 11 – 17 are $5.00; Children 10 years of age and
under are $3.00. Ages 2 & under are
admitted free.
Another
exciting night of racing action is on tap for the “Big Track” next Saturday night, August 10. Racing action will include the Late Models,
Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Road Warriors/Mini Vans, PENNMAR Vintage Cars and
the “Blast from the Past” Vintage Cars.
Due to the
amount of racing on Saturday, August 3, the postponed awards
presentation for the SSP Outback Track Spring season will now be on Saturday,
August 10 when Kid’s Box Car Racing will be on the card. Prizes
will be available for all entrants in the Kid’s Box Car Races. All children
ages 10 and under are encouraged to decorate their boxes and compete in the
races. A box car is a racecar made out of a box (with their arms, legs and head sticking
out). Two family members or friends are
needed for the pit crew. This will be a
two-(2) lap race (on the frontstretch) with a pit stop. The pit stop will include taking off and
putting shoes back on both feet for tire changes, washing the face to clean
windshield and drinking a drink for fuel.

Saturday, the pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m.
Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m.
Warm-ups begin at 6:40 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed
by consolation races and feature events.
General
Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the special event on Wednesday night,
August 3 are Adults (ages 18-59) $12.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior
Adults (60 & Older) $10.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass
prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license
holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age
with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to
14.

JR's Paving Late Model Hard Charger Award
- For every regular season Late Model feature event, JR's Paving will present a
Hard Charger Award to the driver that improves the most positions from their
starting spot in the feature event. The winner will receive either $100.00,
$50.00 or $25.00 (based on a draw in victory lane) compliments of JR's Paving
(Dover) and be eligible for post-season awards for accumulating the most Hard
Charger Awards during the season.
To
be eligible for the Hard Charger Award per race, the driver must be on the lead
lap and finish the race. If
two drivers improve the same amount of positions, the tiebreaker will be the
driver starting closer to the pole position being awarded the Hard Charger of
the race.

The
Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune is on August 7
The next
Wednesday Night Test & Tune for any type of racecar will be on Wednesday, August 7. The
gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The
cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar
entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Each session will be 4-6 laps per session
depending on car count. The grandstands
are open free to the public. Each class
will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 4/6 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts
will not be open. Anyone needing fuel
should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open
throughout the night.
Also on
Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts
and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else
entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas.
All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road
entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”
