RAY SWINEHART WINS BIG DIAMOND MODIFIEDS, BEACH, KILLIAN, EARNST ALSO
VICTORIOUS
MINERSVILLE, PA - AUGUST 4th, 2013
Ray Swinehart took
advantage of a new set-up, a sixth starting spot, and a little luck to record
his first win of the season at Big Diamond Speedway Friday evening.
Brad
Arnold took the early lead from his pole starting position and led the first few
laps. Swinehart made his move on lap three and took the lead, followed closely
by Duane Howard, driving the Glenn Hyneman owned #126 car. Lap after lap
Swinehart led, with Howard following closely, hoping the veteran Swinehart would
leave him the opening he needed to take the lead. Disaster struck on lap #18
for now 5th place Arnold, as his engine expired exciting turn #2, bringing out
the caution. Under the yellow flag conditions, Howard suddenly exited to the
pits, ending his night and now putting ninth starting Jeff Strunk next to
Swinehart on the restart. On the restart Swinehart powered away on the outside
groove and led the remaining 7 laps, scoring his first victory at Big Diamond
since August 5th, 2011. The victory was the 20th of Swinehart's career at Big
Diamond, and moved him into a tie for ninth place on the all time win list with
Butch Kresier and Jack Follweiler. Strunk held on for a solid second place
finish, followed by Meme Desantis, last weeks winner Frank Cozze, and Bobby
Gunther Walsh, with his first ever top five at Big Diamond. Sixth thru tenth
were Kevin Albert Jr., Craig Von Dohren, Dale Hartz, Rick Laubach, and Doug
Manmiller. Heat races were won by Howard, Gunther Walsh, and
Arnold.
With his third place finish, Desantis has now moved to within 80
points of Von Dohren in the season long points battle with a maximum of eight
point races remaining.
In the 20 lap USS Achey Sportsman feature, Wayne
Witmer led the early part of the feature event from his outside pole starting
position. Around the mid-way point of the event, Kevin Beach was able to power
by Witmer and pull away to a large margin of victory for his third victory of
the season and 8th of his career in the Sportsman ranks. Witmer held on for a
season best second place finish, followed by Doug Hendricks, Billy Moyer Jr.,
and Jared Umbenhauer. Mike Lisowski, TIm Fitzpatrick, Robin Schultz, AJ
Gerhart, and Mike Glass rounded out the top ten. Heat races were won by Andrew
Cozze and Doug Hendricks.
With the 4th place finish, Moyer moved to
within 63 points of Umbenhauer in the season long battle, with only seven races
remaining for the Sportsman division.
Jared Umbenhauer won the last five
rounds of the Sportsman challenge races to win the overall title for the
evening. Umbenhauer beat Mike Lisowski in the final round for the overall win.
Corey Renninger won rounds one thru four, Billy Moyer Jr. won round five, while
Umbenhauer won rounds sixth thru ten in the fan favorite one on one
events.
Kyle Killian used his 2nd place starting spot and a non-stop 20
lap event to win his third feature of the season in the Savage 61 Roadrunner
division. Shon Elk followed Killian across the line in second, with Jim Kost,
Marc Berzowski, and Joe Kavanaugh completing the top five. Sixth thru tenth were
Jeremy Becker, Terry Kramer Jr., Devin Trexler, Chris Holland, and Tim
Fitzpatrick Jr. Heat races were won by Jeremy Backer and Devin
Trexler.
Chad Earnst won the 20 lap non-stop Legends feature
event.
