JERSEY RUSH INVADES NEW EGYPT
WRITTEN BY: JERRY REIGLE
TYLER WALKER STOKED FOR UPCOMING "JERSEY RUSH" AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY TUESDAY, AUGUST 30
NEW EGYPT, NJ – Anyone can win the race.
But Tyler Walker is definitely a fan favorite when it comes to the upcoming 410 Sprint Car “JERSEY RUSH” at New Egypt Speedway on Tuesday, August 30. Walker enters the race, the first for the Sprint Cars at the New Jersey dirt track, since 2007, as one of the most hyped drivers in the industry.
Two weeks ago, Walker of Los Angeles, Calif., steered the Jesse Keen-owned No. 17 to victory at Eldora (Ohio) Speedway where he won the King’s Royal $50,000 prize. Walker is one of only five 410 Sprint Car drivers who won main events at New Egypt Speedway. He won a spirited contest in 2000 in what some described as the one of the best events ever contested at the track.
“I can’t wait for this event,” Walker said. “It came out of nowhere and anytime we can have a high-paying event, we’ll be there. “It’s events like this that keeps the sport growing. The purse in exceptional and it’s a race drivers and teams should support.”
Walker, of course, is known for his charismatic style of racing. Recently, it took him to Victory Lane at Eldora Speedway. “We’re running really well right now,” Walker said. “This team is coming together at the right time especially with all the big-paying races coming up. The Jersey Rush is one that we would like to add to our season resume.”
The event will showcase two premiere divisions – the 410 Sprint Cars and Modifieds.
The 410 Sprint Cars last appeared at New Egypt Speedway in 2007 when Steve Kinser won the main. Other winners include Donny Schatz (2001 and 2003), PJ Chesson (2002), Walker (2000) and Billy Pauch (1999).
Interest is high for the event as pre-entered drivers include Greg Hodnett, Lance Dewease, Dave Ely, Justin Henderson, Fred Rahmer and Ryan Taylor. Several New Jersey drivers including Rick Lafferty, Davey Sammons, Robbie Stillwaggon and Mark Bitner hope to defend their turf. New drivers are being added daily.
The 30-lap feature event will pay $4000 to the winner and a $1000 bonus is offered the first pre-entered driver across the line meaning the winner could take home $5000.
There is no entry fee for a driver to be eligible for the bonus, but they must pre-enter before August 12th by calling 443-513-4456. Another benefit to being pre-entered is that any non-qualified driver, who is entered prior to the race, will receive $100 in tow money.
A Meet and Greet is being organized by officials for fans to get an up close look at the drivers and cars. It will take place from 5-6 p.m., the gate from Victory Lane to the pit area will open to allow spectators to go pit side.
The standard purse will include $4000 for the winner, with $2000 going to the runner-up, $1600 to third, $1500 to fourth and $1400 to fifth. The balance of the purse will pay $1300 (sixth), $1200 (seventh), $1100 (eighth), $1025 (ninth) and $1000 (10th), $825 (11th), $725 (12th), $600 (13th), $525 (14th), $515 (15th) and $400 (16th-24th). The sprint entries are open to any 410, 360 or 358 however, 305 sprints are not permitted to compete.
The Modifieds, led by top winner Billy Pauch, will be the second half the this popular "double trouble" event competing in qualifying heat races all leading up to the $3,000 to win 30 lap modified feature.
General admission is $30 for adults, $10 for children 6-11 and kids under the age of six will be admitted for Free. The pit fee is $35 and a license is not required.
The event is a co-promotion between Lenny Sammons, his son
s and special events organizer Bob Miller.
