KUTZTOWN FAIR SPEEDWAY RAINED OUT ON MAY 18; MIKE O'PAKE MEMORIAL UP NEXT

Kutztown, Pa. - May 18 - Kutztown Fair Speedway promoter Kerry Meitzler was forced to surrender to Mother Nature after early week rains drenched the one-fifth mile oval, leaving it unworkable as additional showers peppered the track on Wednesday. After a hugely successful season opener on May 11, the second Wild Wednesday event of 2011 had to be cancelled due to the effects of inclement weather.

Next Wednesday, May 25, will feature a big night of racing action at the speedway located in the shadows of Kutztown University. While the wingless 600cc and winged 270cc Micro-Sprints will once again share the bill with the Xcel Sportsman/Stage One Modifieds, the All Star Slingshots will be spotlighted as they take part in the first ever Mike O'Pake Memorial Race. The O'Pake Memorial is a Mid-Atlantic Gold Regional Tour event for the Slingshots, and it will  honor the memory of the popular State Senator from Berks County who passed away in December of 2010. O'Pake was a big supporter of local auto racing, and he was one of those responsible for bringing motorsports back to the Reading Fair six years ago. It is the Slingshots that take center stage at the Reading Fair, so it is only fitting that they are the division competing in the Mike O'Pake Memorial in Kutztown.

The entire program on May 25 will be sponsored by the Berks-Schuylkill Oil Heat Association. Gates will open at 4 p.m., with warm-ups getting underway at 6:30. The first qualifying heat goes green at 7:00.

Brett Michalski (wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints) and Trevor Kobylarz (winged 270cc Micros) shared the May 11 Goldie Meitzler Memorial spotlight with Joel Smith (Xcel Sportsman/Stage One Modifieds) and Simon Egan (All Star Slingshots), as they defeated a banner field of entrants in all four classes. They'll return, looking to make it two in a row, on May 25.

Egan, from Stroudsburg, comes in to the Mike O'Pake Memorial as perhaps the hottest Slingshot driver in the northeast, as he added to his Kutztown victory with a triumph in a Regional Tour event at the Hamlin Speedway in the Poconos on May 14.

As the season heads into the month of June, Racers Roundtable.com joins WIX Filters 100 Nights of Racing to present another four division card of fast and furious action on Wednesday, June 1st. The wingless 600cc and winged 270cc Micro-Sprints, Xcel Sportsman/Stage One Modifieds, and All Star Slingshots will again share the menu in qualifying heats, consolations, and 20-lap main events with special WIX Filters prize packs going to each feature winner and some terrific WIX Filters merchandise handed out to some lucky fans.

Wild Wednesdays at the Kutztown Fair Speedway...providing your midweek motorsports adrenaline rush!
