Kreitz Returns to Victory at SSP on Sunday Night
Newberrytown, PA (April 13, 2014) – Donnie Kreitz of Sinking Springs took the victory in the 5th Annual Sprint Car Spring Classic at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Sunday night. Tyler Ross of Lincoln University collected the 358 Sprint Car 20 lapper.
By virtue of winning his heat race and pulling the “no inversion” pill, Blaine Heimbach took the early lead of the 410 Sprint Car 25-lapper. As Heimbach set the pace of the race, with Lance Dewease and Danny Hotgraver in tow, Donnie Kreitz began picking off positions from his seventh place starting spot. On lap 7, Kreitz moved past Holtgraver to claim third. At the midway point, Kreitz moved past Dewease to claim the runner-up spot. A caution flag on lap 14 negated the lead that Heimbach had built. With Krietz restarting on Heimbach’s rear bumper, Heimbach took off as the green flag flew.
On lap 18, Kreitz slid in front of Heimbach coming out of turn 4 to take the lead. However, Heimbach would not go away as he pursued Kreitz into lap traffic as the laps wound down. With two laps to go, Heimbach made his move going into three and four but was unable to complete the pass as the lapped car slid up in front of him, blocking him from making the pass. Kreitz went on to take the victory over Heimbach with Lance Dewease finishing third. This was Kreitz’s 30th career SSP victory putting him five wins away from all-time open wheel SSP feature win leader Johnny Mackison Sr. at 35 wins. Out-of-staters Trey Starks and Danny Holtgraver finished fourth and fifth respectively. Heat race wins went to Heimbach, Dewease and Zearfoss.
In the 358 Sprint Car night cap, Chandler Leiby took the lead from the front row. Kevin Nouse immediately began to challenge from the runner-up spot after starting fourth. Nouse took over the top spot on the third circuit. As a wild battle ensued for the lead, Leiby regained the lead with Brad McClelland close behind. Nouse retired from the race on lap 11 when the caution flag flew. Tyler Ross made it a three car battle for the lead midway through the race. With five to go, Ross claimed the runner-up spot and passed Leiby with two to go to take the lead. Ross went on to collect the feature victory over McClelland in second and Leiby had to settle for a strong third place finish. Brock Zerafoss, who finished 7th in the 410 Sprint Car main event, came home fourth in the 358 Sprint Car feature. Scott Fisher rounded out the top five. McClelland and Nouse were the heat race winners.
Racing action returns to the Big Track at SSP on Sunday night, April 19 when Figure 8 Racing returns to SSP along with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Road Warriors, Mini Vans/Jr. Road Warriors and the PENNMAR Vintage Cars. The start time for racing is 6:00 p.m.
The 410 Sprint Cars will return to SSP on Sunday, May 4 along with the Late Models and Sidewinder Sprint Cars. The start time is 7:00 p.m. for the event.

The Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune is on April 23
The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The gran dstands are open free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will not be open. Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open throughout the night.
Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets and karts at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”
- Track Rental for the “Big Track” and the “Outback Track” – The “Big track” and the “Outback track” are available for rent for testing and tuning purposes. The “Big Track” rental fee is $1,400.00 for 4 hours and may be split between a maximum of five-(5) drivers/teams. Only one car is permitted on the track at a time. If an ambulance is requested, it is an additional $75.00 per hour. For nighttime rentals at the “Big Track”, an additional $100.00 per hour will be charged for lights.
The rental price for the “Outback Track” is $400.00 for 4 hours during the day /$500.00 at night and may be split between a maximum of five-(5) drivers/teams. To reserve either track, please call 717-292-1696.
- Repeat Fan Discount Continues for 2014 – The popular “Repeat Fan Discount” program will continue at SSP in 2014. There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
Ticket Stubs from the Saturday, November 16, 2013 Final Showdown race may be used for the first three races on April 6, April 13 & April 14.
