TIPPIN, BLANDA AND WEBSTER SCORE OPENING NIGHT VICTORIES

Jim Tippin, John Blanda and John Webster II beat “Mother Nature” and their competition to record wins on opening night at Bridgeport Speedway’s inner circle.  Tippin grabbed the lead midway through the event from Bill Thomas while maneuvering lapped traffic to record the win in the 20-lap 600cc Micro Sprint feature.  Blanda was sure and steady as leaders fell by the wayside to record his win in the 20-lap 270cc Micro Sprint feature. Webster led the entire distance recording his first career win in the Four-Cylinder Enduro feature.

A heads-up start for the feature put heat winners, Thomas and Jay Hartman on the front row.  Thomas jumped out to the early lead with Hartman following in his tracks.

Tippin, who started fourth, moved past Jay Hartman into the runner-up spot before the race’s only caution flew on the third lap.  On the restart Thomas jumped back in front with Tippin and Hartman on his rear bumper.  The leading trio caught lapped traffic at the halfway mark.  Thomas moved to the outside to pass the slower traffic while Tippin and Hartman took to the inside.  The inside line proved to be the faster line as Tippin and Hartman completed the pass on Thomas and the slower traffic. Tippin was not challenged the rest of the way.  Jay Hartman crossed the line second with Thomas, Sam Lamothe and Jeff Hartman completing the top five.

Blanda and Jay Hartman won the heats for the 270cc Micro Sprints and led the field to the green flag.  Hartman jumped out to the early led but slowed going down the backstretch after a lap was complete.  On the restart, Joe Dopke assumed command of the event.  Tyler Reinhardt, who had started tenth, quickly moved through the field until he slowed challenging Blanda for second. When the green flag flew, Dopke again put distance between himself and Blanda until he slowed with a burnt piston with four laps to go.  Blanda assumed the lead on the restart and never looked back.  Glenn Frye finished second followed by Eva Bellinger, Bill Gray and Sean Huesser.

John Webster II captured the non-stop  4 Cylinder event over second place, Laura John.
