SOUTHERN TIER CHALLENGE CUP TO BE DECIDED SUNDAY AT THUNDER MOUNTAIN (9-24-15)‏

Two Distinct Point Battles Shaping Up This Sunday At Thunder Mountain Speedway Wade Decker Memorial Race; American Racer Southern Tier Challenge Cup 2015 Champion To Be Decided This Weekend; Valuable Short Track Super Series North Region Points At Stake
CENTER LISLE, NY – Two distinct point battles will be underway when the MjH Oilfield Wade Decker Memorial Modified 50-lap event hits the track this Sunday, Sept. 27 at Thunder Mountain Speedway.
Certainly, the focus will be on the seventh leg of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear North Region for Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek (STSS) competitors. A $15,000 STSS North Region title is on the line with only two events remaining. However, another championship – this for the American Racer Southern Tier Challenge Cup – will be decided when the checkered flies on the Wade Decker Memorial.
The Southern Tier Challenge Cup, in its first year, is a $10,000 program involving I-88 Speedway in Afton, N.Y., and Thunder Mountain.
Starting with both speedway’s Opening Nights, a driver’s 15 best finishes at each venue count toward the final Southern Tier Challenge Cup standings. Currently, both facilities – I-88 and Thunder Mountain – have completed 18 events.
The final two programs that will count toward the points take place this weekend: the ‘Fall 250’ Saturday at I-88 and Wade Decker Memorial Sunday at Thunder Mountain.
Following Thunder Mountain’s lucrative Wade Decker Memorial on Sunday, the final points will be tabulated utilizing the drivers’ ‘Best 15’ finishes.
Entering this weekend, I-88/Thunder Mountain champion Mike Mahaney sits atop the standings representing I-88 over a trio of competitors from the Afton Fairgrounds oval: Mitch Gibbs, Andy Bachetti and Brett Tonkin. Thunder Mountain holds the next four positions with Brian Malcolm, Mike Mahaney, Chad Cook and Ryan Jordan fifth through eighth, respectively. Rusty Smith from I-88 is ninth and Brent Wilcox from Thunder Mountain completes the top-10.
Lias Tire and the participating facilities have provided a solid point fund/award list for the top-10 overall drivers in the Southern Tier Challenge Cup standings.
The breakdown is as follows: champion: $650 cash plus eight tires ($2,000 value); second: $400 plus four tires ($1,072 value); third: $350 plus three tires ($854 value); fourth: $200 plus two tires ($536 value); fifth: $150 plus two tires ($486 value); sixth: two tires ($336 value); seventh: two tires ($336 value); eighth: one tire ($168 value); ninth: $85 off a tire; and 10th: $50 off a tire.
Awards will be available for pickup during the weekend of Friday-Saturday October 9-10 when I-88 Speedway, in conjunction with the Short Track Super Series, hosts the Halmar Short Track SuperNationals 8 presented by Olum’s.
I-88 Speedway, a four-tenths-mile clay oval, is located conveniently off I-88 Exit 7 (Afton), approximately 25 miles north and east of Binghamton, at 46 East Main Street Afton, NY 13730, on the Afton Fairgrounds. There is plentiful space for parking and camping, a unique covered grandstand, family atmosphere, award-winning concessions and more.
Thunder Mountain Speedway is located at 91 Hunts Corners Road Center Lisle, NY 13797, approximately 25 miles north of Binghamton. The three-eighths-mile clay oval features hillside concrete seating, free parking and camping, a variety of concession items and novelties, a family environment and more.
