Bridgeport's Bill Hill Memorial Race Winner to Receive $939 this Saturday
Bridgeport, NJ - On Saturday, July 19, the 2nd Annual 'Bill Hill Memorial' for the 811 Dig Safely Crate/Sportsman
will highlight the track's three-division program. Bill Hill, a fixture, a friend, and competitor for many years at the speedway, sadly passed away in the winter of 2012. His two sons Jesse and Travis, along with the Hill family, will once again honor their late father in fine fashion come July 19.
Last year's first ever Bill Hill Memorial drew several outside racers due to the increased purse and bonuses posted by the Hill Family and their donators and sponsors. Delaware's Jordan Watson was able to conquer the field for the $928 first place prize. This year the winner of the 2nd Annual Bill Hill Memorial Race will take home $939 (in honor of Mr. Hill's car numbers 9A & 39). The start money will see be bumped up to $100, while each heat race winner will receive $50. The leader every lap in the feature will earn $20. A $100 Gift Certificate Tough Luck Award from Jones Racing Products has been posted. The weekly traditional $50 'Hard Charger' Award courtesy of Searock Landscaping will once again be in affect. The top finishing 602 crate motor is a guaranteed starter at the Beach Clash at Georgetown Speedway. Due to the nature of the event, the Bill Hill Memorial will once again not carry 'regular' points or handicapping. All drivers in attendance will receive 50 show up points towards the 2014 point chase. All drivers will draw for heat races and the top 12 will draw for feature positions.
"Last year's race meant a lot to my brother and I as well as our whole family," offered former track champion Jesse Hill. "It's a good way to remember our Dad, as well as giving back to the racers at a place that he really loved," Hill added. Jesse and Travis will be accepting sponsors and donators up until race day. You can reach Jesse at 856-981-3401 if you'd like to become a Bill Hill Memorial sponsor or contribute to the race. The family is also taking shirt orders for the event, as hundreds of sharp-looking t-shirts were designed and sold last year. All profits go towards the Crate/Sportsman purse on race day. The Hill Family would like to thank all of the sponsors for this year's event.
The Hills obviously want to win one for their 'Dad' but they are fierce competitors too. "We hope to see drivers who aren't racing that night (New Egypt & Big Diamond are off) come to Bridgeport for a good time and to remember a great man," stated current point leader Travis Hill. This year's Bill Hill Memorial falls on one of Bridgeport Speedway's monthly $15 'Appreciation Nights', so the track is looking for some new faces both in the pits and the stands on this exciting night. Any questions in regards to the division rules should contact Danny Serrano at 609-433-4487. Racing starts at 7pm on July 19 for the Spirit Dodge Big Blocks, 811 Dig Safely Crate/Sportsman, and Stewart Stainless Outlaw Stocks.
