THIS RELEASE WAS PREPARED FOR THE OPEN WHEEL SPECTACULAR SERIES BY DEB SMITH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PLEASE WITH OUR THANKS….
FIRST OPEN WHEEL SPECTACULAR WILL FEATURE TSRS SPRINTS AND ARDC MIDGETS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY ON SUNDAY, JUNE 22
Bechtelsville, PA June 15, 2014 . . . They're coming to the Grandview Speedway!
On Sunday, June 22nd, the first Open Wheel Spectacular featuring the Hilborn Tri-State Race Saver (TSRS) Sprint Cars and the wingless midgets of the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC).
The cancellation of the first scheduled event in May has only served to heighten the anticipation for the fans and competitors alike as they prepare for Sunday night racing to return to the Grandview Speedway.
Both the 2013 ARDC Champion and TSRS Champion, are looking forward to the Sunday night Open Wheel Spectacular at Grandview. A Sunday night win at Grandview, is a goal for both Trevor Kobylarz and Mike Haggenbottom. Kobylarz stated, "A lot of people have told me how they used to attend those Sunday night races at Grandview. With this being our (ARDC) 75th Anniversary, it reconnects us to a part of our history that was very popular." Kobylarz continued, "Grandview is one of my favorite tracks. We consider Grandview to be our home track since it is the closest to home of anywhere we race."
Haggenbottom had similar feelings about racing at Grandview. "We love this track," the TSRS Champion said of Grandview. "There's nothing like racing a sprint car on a dry, slick track when you can just let the car float on the top of the corners."
Kobylarz is still seeking his first win of the season but does have a Grandview Victory under his belt from last season. Haggenbottom has one win in 2014 but would like to add a Grandview Speedway victory to his list of accomplishments.
Mother Nature has made an impact on the 2014 racing season and both ARDC and TSRS have been effected. ARDC has completed six programs to date.
Current ARDC point leader, Steven Drevicki recently became the first to repeat this season. Drevicki of Reading, PA has a win at New Egypt and Port Royal and would like nothing better to add a win at Grandview.
Alex Bright overcame what appeared to be insurmountable odds with his Grandview win on Memorial Day weekend. Bright started 21st in the 24 car field and raced his way to capture the 25 lap feature event during the Thunder on the Hill program. Five different drivers led during that race with countless lead changes. It is a race that will be talked about for a long time to come.
Tim Buckwalter picked up the win at Grandview during the recent Eastern Storm week when the wingless sprint cars of USAC came to the area.. Buckwalter used his familiarity with the Grandview track surface to set his Buckwalter Motorsports #52 up to perfection as he won the first ARDC event that he competed in during the 2014 season.
PJ Garguilo and Steve Buckwalter have also raced to ARDC wins this season.
Karl Freyer, Mike Haggenbottom and Reinhardt each have one win in Hilborn Tri-State Race Saver competition this season. Reinhardt's car owner, Bruce Kindberg of Bruce's Speed Shop, related his memories of the Sunday night Grandview Shows years ago. "I loved going to those races," Kindberg stated. "Those midget races were an elite event. I used to follow a driver by the name of George Ferguson but I remember watching guys like Fornoro, Earnshaw and all those guys race at Grandview on Sunday nights."
The hosts of the Low, Down and Dirty internet radio show will host a meet & greet prior to the night of racing, starting at 5pm. Drivers and cars from both ARDC and TSRS will be on hand to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures before heading to the pit area to prepare for a night of racing.
Qualifying races and twenty-five lap features are scheduled for both divisions.
Sunday night racing begins at 7:30. Adult grandstand admission is $15. Kids 6-12 pay $5 and under 6 are admitted free.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road just off Route 100 in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at www.grandviewspeedway.com. Also on Twitter97@grandviewspeedway and www.facebook.com/grandviewspeedwayinc.
