First-Timer: Tim McCreadie Plans Accord Speedway Debut Saturday, November 30 For ‘Gobbler’ Event; Modified Field Taking Shape As Invaders & Track Regulars Square Off; Long List Of Bonuses Await Modified, Sportsman & Pure/Street Stock Competitors
ACCORD, NY – Tim McCreadie will knock Accord Speedway off his bucket list.
McCreadie, the Watertown, N.Y., Super Late Model and dirt Modified superstar, has set his debut at the quarter-mile oval for Saturday, November 30 when BD Motorsports Media LLC presents the ‘Gobbler’ as a co-promotion with facility owner and promoter Gary Palmer.
McCreadie – a national touring series racer who has never turned a competitive lap at Accord – will pilot Vinnie Salerno’s potent Four Star Transmissions No. 4* in ‘Gobbler’ Modified competition as the field begins to take shape for the 2013 outdoor dirt-track finale. McCreadie enters only select, high-paying Modified special events with his full-time focus on World of Outlaws Late Model competition.
The ‘Gobbler’ is headlined by a 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified event paying $7,117.11 to win thanks to Sowle Trailer Repair and Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. Simplicity Designs and Creekside Supply also contributed to the winner’s share.
Sportsman (Open & Crate 602) race 25 laps for $1,000 to the winner (plus $500 in Crate 602 bonuses and other awards) and a special Pure Stock/Street Stock Ron Wright Memorial 20-lap event, with a rapidly growing purse, completes the event. More than $1,000 has been raised to boost the payout for the Ron Wright Memorial Event. Wright was a lifelong race fan, “racing Dad” to son Kyle and crew member before his untimely passing last year.
McCreadie adds to a talented field of Modified competitors assembling for the ‘Gobbler’ spectacular. Stewart Friesen and Mike Mahaney – both big Modified winners on Nov. 9 – have both set plans to attend. Friesen, the champion at N.Y.’s Fonda and Utica-Rome speedways and the recent Super DIRTcar Series finale victor in North Carolina at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, will pilot the Tadd Parks-owned No. 1.
With 22 victories each in ’13 dirt Modified competition this season, Friesen and Matt Sheppard are tied atop the Northeast win list. Friesen, of Sprakers, N.Y., looks to forge ahead with a win at Accord in the finale.
Mahaney, 24, of King Ferry, N.Y., won the Modified championship at N.Y.’s I-88 Speedway this season, earning the ‘Crazy 8s Special’ checkered and more than $8,000 in July. He recently topped the Southern Tier 100 at N.Y.’s Five Mile Point Speedway. He plans to drive the Charlie Davis-owned No. 21 at the ‘Gobbler’ event.
Capital District driver Elmo Reckner of Ballston Lake, N.Y., has filed entries for a pair of drivers at the ‘Gobbler’ event. Reckner, a winner at Glen Ridge (N.Y.) Motorsports Park in ’13, will drive a No. 17, while Jimmy Davis of Ballston Spa, N.Y., straps into a No. 17x.
JaMike Sowle of Fultonville, N.Y., a winner in’13 at both Albany-Saratoga (N.Y.) and Fonda speedways, plans to turn his first-ever Accord laps in the Sowle Trailer Repair No. 711. Sowle is a former track champion at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.
Garden State legend Jimmy Horton won a ‘Gobbler’ guaranteed starting position at Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway on Nov. 15. Horton of Neshanic Station, N.J., plans to invade Accord driving the Lincoln Auto Body No. 5 owned by Dieter Schmidt.
Tim Hindley of Fair Oaks, N.Y., the Orange County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway Modified champion, will drive the Joe Sarvis-owned No. 94 small-block at the ‘Gobbler’ event. He will be joined by fellow Orange County regular and ’13 feature winner Mike Kolka Jr. of Middletown, N.Y., in a Haubrich family car.
Others planning to attend include Glen Ridge champ Bobby Varin of Sharon Springs, N.Y.; Fulton (N.Y.) Speedway champion Pat Ward of Genoa, N.Y.; Southern Tier star Brian Weaver of Windsor, N.Y.; recent Black Rock (N.Y.) Speedway winner Bob Henry Jr. of Clay, N.Y.; 14-year-old sensation Tyler Dippel of Wallkill, N.Y.; Nick Rochinski of Dickson City, Pa.; Justin Holland of Kauneonga Lake, N.Y.; Glen Ridge invader Jimmy Becker of Guilderland, N.Y.; Richard Smith of Accord, N.Y.; and more.
Accord regulars looking to defend their home turf include track champion and ‘King of the Catskills’ winner Jackie Brown Jr. of Hurley, N.Y., ‘Battle of the Bullring’ winner Danny Creeden of Middletown, N.Y., Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., rising young star Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y., Tommy Meier of Waldwick, N.J., Danny Tyler of Cottekill, N.Y., Dom Roselli of Eldred, N.Y., (driving the Mike Doty-owned No. 1R) and others.
Competitors in the “Mashed Potato Modifieds,” Sportsman “Turkey 25” and “Pumpkin Pie Pure Stocks” have plenty of incentive to keep their cars together for the ‘Gobbler’ finale. A complete list of special awards and bonuses can be found on the web at www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com under the ‘Gobbler’ icon. The bonus list includes thousands in cash, plus product awards and other perks for competitors.
As a gesture of thanks for the outstanding support of the ‘Battle of the Bullring’ contested in August, the Accord Speedway concession stands will be serving FREE hot coffee all day with any purchase.
Additionally, to benefit local families in need, a Holiday Toy Drive will be held at the ‘Gobbler’ event. The speedway will collect new, unwrapped toys to donate to the Town of Rochester Youth Commission. Any individual bringing a toy will receive a coupon for a FREE hot chocolate.
Gates open at 11 a.m. with a Driver’s Meeting set for 12:30 p.m. Hot laps begin at 1 p.m. and the first green is flag planned for 1:30 p.m.
Grandstand admission is $20 for Adults, $18 for Seniors (ages 65 and over) and $5 for Kids 11 and under. Limited indoor seating is available at $30 each. Contact the speedway office at 845.626.3478 to reserve an indoor seat. Pit admission is $35 with no license required.
Camping is encouraged on the speedway grounds Friday and Saturday nights and is free of charge (no hook-ups). Campfires are permitted so long as they are contained.
Thanksgiving weekend racing returns to Accord this November for the first time in 11 years. The speedway previously hosted a ‘Turkey Chase’ event on Nov. 30, 2002 won by Robbie Green. Some 94 total race cars participated in the ’02 event, which was well attended.
