BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY NEWS - NOVEMBER 17, 2013‏

BLEWETT, BORROR AND LIEDTKA CLOSE OUT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY’S WILD CARD WEEKEND WITH WINS

Bridgeport, NJ (November 17, 2013)  - On day two of Bridgeport Speedway’s Wild Card Weekend, Jimmy Blewett topped a stellar field of Big Block Modifieds to capture the Gone But Not Forgetten Poker Series contest. The Crate/Sportsman Poker Series race was taken by Kyle Borror. Bill Liedtka scored the win in the very competitive Friends of Mike Race for Outlaw Stock Cars that served as the finale in the Black Flagged Racing Shoot-Out Series.

For the second time in 2013 at Bridgeport Speedway, Jimmy Blewett visited victory lane as he captured the 40-lap Gone But Not Forgotten Poker Series race for the Big Block Modifieds. Frank Cozze jumped out to the lead as the contest got underway. Sammy Piazza moved past Stewart Friesen on the second circuit to gain the runner-up position. Blewett, who started the race in ninth, moved into fourth place with five tours recorded. On lap 13, Friesen’s motor expired and this created the fifth caution of the race. On the ensuing restart, Cozze fought off the strong challenge from Piazza with Blewett riding in third place. After a caution period on lap 18, Blewett sped past Piazza to gain second place with Cozze still setting the pace. With twenty-five circuits recorded, Cozze had stretched his lead to a half-straightaway as Blewett was fending off Piazza. Ryan Watt’s slowing car on lap 26 would cause the eighth yellow flag and change the outcome of the race. At the last moment before the double file restart, Cozze, per the leader’s prerogative, switched to the outside lane from the inside lane. As the green flag waved, Blewett used the lower racing line to gain the lead with Piazza taking second, Duane Howard advancing to third and Cozze dropping to fourth place. Once in front, Blewett survived several additional caution periods to gain the victory. Piazza’s impressive driving throughout the race earned him a second place finish. Howard, who started the race in nineteenth, finished in third. Fourth went to Cozze. After starting in sixteenth, Jimmy Horton completed the race in fifth. With a thirteenth place finish, Rusty Smith collected his third Deuce and won the best hand in the Poker Series. Blewett had the second best hand with a pair of Aces and Howard’s two Queens gave him the third best hand. The Big Block Modified qualifying events were won by Frank Cozze, Bob Sarkisian, Stan Frankenfield, Jr., and Richie Pratt, Jr. Eric Kormann and Ryan Watt were victorious in the consolation races.

In the 25-lap Crate/Sportsman Poker Series finale, Kyle Borror took the lead from Chuckles Stone on the second circuit and led the balance of the race for his second win of the year. Anthony Perrego, who started the contest in twenty-third, finished in second place. Third place went to Mike Lyons. Steve Davis and Jesse Hill rounded out the top five. Lyons won the Poker Series as his third place finish earned him his third Queen. Borror had the next best hand with two Aces and two Kings. A pair of Nines gave Mike Cogdill, the 2013 track champion, the third best hand. Chuckles Stone, John Kelly, Mike Lyons, and Marc Herman took the heat races in the Crate/Sportsman division. The consolation events were taken by Kevin Belmont and CJ Jones.

Bill Liedtka regained the lead on lap 19 and held on to win the 20-lap Friends of Mike Race, the final event in the Black Flagged Racing’s Outlaw Stock Car Shoot-Out Series. In the highly entertaining race, Liedtka set the pace for the opening thirteen circuits before Rich Reider took control of the contest. In a three-way battle for the lead between Reider, Pat Conaway, and Liedtka, the eventual victor raced up to first from third on the nineteenth tour and survived a restart on the same lap to win the race. Conaway finished in second with Jason Saredy coming home in third. Ron Frees and Brian Ludwig completed the top five. Liedtka’s 308 points gave him the series title in the Shoot-Out Series sponsored by Black Flagged Racing. Second place went to Frees as his 265 markers were one more than Ludwig. The Outlaw Stock Car heat race victors were Tom Wills, Sr., Bill Liedtka and Pat Conaway. The consolation race was won by TJ Henry.

The Garden State Vintage Stock Car race was won by Dennis Drain.
