ACCORD, NY – What was initiated as a novelty year-end program has grown significantly into one of the 2013 racing season’s most lucrative events.

When Accord Speedway hosts the ‘Gobbler’ 2013 dirt-track finale on Saturday, November 30, race teams in each of the three divisions will be competing for healthy purses and a long list of special awards thanks to a growing group of marketing partners. The ‘Gobbler’ event, a co-promotion involving BD Motorsports Media LLC and Accord owner/promoter Gary Palmer, will bring down the curtain on outdoor dirt-track racing in ’13.

The afternoon program at the Ulster County quarter-mile oval is headlined by a 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified main event paying a hefty $6,711 to the winner thanks to Sowle Trailer Repair and Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. Sportsman (Open & Crate 602) race 25 laps for $1,000 to the winner and a special Pure Stock/Street Stock Ron Wright Memorial 20-lap event, with a rapidly growing purse, completes the event.

Competitors in the “Mashed Potato Modifieds,” Sportsman “Turkey 25” and “Pumpkin Pie Pure Stocks” have plenty of reason to keep their cars together for the ‘Gobbler’ finale.

Gates open at 11 a.m. with a Driver’s Meeting set for 12:30 p.m. Hot laps begin at 1 p.m. and the first green is flag planned for 1:30 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $20 for Adults, $18 for Seniors (ages 65 and over) and $5 for Kids 11 and under. Limited indoor seating is available at $30 each. Contact the speedway office at 845.626.3478 to reserve an indoor seat. Pit admission is $35 with no license required.

In the Modified division, each of the race’s qualifying heat races has been sponsored for $100 cash. Heat-race sponsors are 710 Motorsports, Keith Sweigart Electric, Hig Fab Chassis and Elmo’s Auto Body. Heat No. 3, sponsored by Jerry Higbie’s fabrication business, features a unique twist. Should a Hig Fab car win the heat, the $100 cash will increase to a $500 shop credit!

Rock Fantasy Concert, Smoke Shop & Pinball Room of Middletown, N.Y., has posted a $250 bonus to the leader of the race’s Halfway Lap (25) in the Modified division.

United Pump & Tank (Newburgh, N.Y.) offers a $169 cash bonus to the race’s Hard Charger in memory of late Northeast racing icon and patriarch of the Green family, Bob Green. The ‘69’ was – and is – the iconic family number that began with Bob and was handed down to Robbie and now Randy Green.

Jack’s Used Race Car Parts has posted $300 to the winner of a special Modified Dash for Cash. Additional bonus money will be paid to other finishers in the event. Ryan Sacco of Simplicity Designs has contributed $100 to the Dash event.

Modified drivers missing a qualifying spot by one position in each of the consolations will receive $50 cash courtesy of Manmiller Electric.

ASI Fuel & Trophies will pay a $100 cash bonus to the driver with the longest tow unable to qualify for the Modified main event.

The top-three Modified finishers will each receive a $100 product certificate for use at Bob Hilbert Sportswear in Boyertown, Pa.

Lias Tire, the regional distributor of American Racer tires based in Indiana, Pa., will reward each of the three race winners – Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock/Pure Stock – with a certificate for a free tire.

D&D NAPA Auto Supply in Highland, N.Y., offers a $50 gift certificate to all three ‘Gobbler’ feature winners.

Race victors will not go hungry. Thanks to Wright’s Orchard& Farm Market (Gardiner, N.Y.), Rosendale Farmer’s Market and John J. Liggan Insurance (Rosendale, N.Y.), all three winners will receive free pies.  “Sharing with the pit crew is suggested!”

In the Sportsman division, United Pump & Tank has posted awards of $250, $125 and $125, respectively to the top-three Crate 602 engines across the line. Premier Auto Body of Highland, N.Y., is the backer of a $150 Hard Charger Award in the Sportsman ranks.

In the Street Stock/Pure Stock division, more than $700 in bonuses, lap money and special awards have been posted in memory of Ron Wright. Look for a complete purse announcement in the coming weeks. The green money for the 50-lap event has been increased to $50.

Camping is encouraged on the speedway grounds Friday and Saturday nights and is free of charge (no hook-ups). Campfires are permitted so long as they are contained.

Thanksgiving weekend racing returns to Accord this November for the first time in 11 years. The speedway previously hosted a ‘Turkey Chase’ event on Nov. 30, 2002 won by Robbie Green. Some 94 total race cars participated in the ’02 event, which was well attended.
