BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY TO CLOSE OUT SEASON THIS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th
MINERSVILLE, PA - September 27th, 2013
Track owners/promoters Jake and Jasmine Smulley present the final event of the season at Big Diamond Speedway this coming Sunday, September 29th. On the card will be the ZY Pyrotechnics 358 Modifieds in a 25 lap feature event, along with the USS Achey Sportsmen, Savage 61 Roadrunners, and Anthracite Coal Delivery Street Stocks all competing in 20 lap feature events.
2013 track champions will also be crowned Sunday. Craig Von Dohren needs only to finish 23rd or better in the Modified feature to secure his second consecutive track title. Sportsman point leader Jared Umbenhauer simply needs to attempt to qualify to wrap up his first ever Big Diamond Speedway title. Mike Walls has a commanding lead in the Street Stock standings. Marc Berzowski has already clinched the Roadrunner championship.
This event will mark the end of what has been a very successful first season under the Smulley ownership. First time ever events such as the big block/small block "Money in the Mountains", which paid $7,500 to win and $500 to take the green, and the "Prelude to the Coal Cracker", which paid $4,000 to win and $400 to take the green, turned out huge cars counts and crowds alike. Two old time fan favorites, the Street Stock division and the Roadrunner Crazy 8's, made their return to the track this season. Four different $3,000 to win and $300 to take the green Modified specials were sprinkled in for good measure, along with the long running and always successful Georgie Stevenson Memorial and Coal Cracker 72 events. The Late Models made a late season appearance at the track, and turned out a nice field of 18 cars and lots of fan excitement. So much that they have been added for at least 13 events in 2014. FANDEMONIUM, a night where free grandstand admission was offered to all, was a huge success, leading to a standing room only crowd. The always highly anticipated 410 Sprint Speed Week show was again a gigantic success.
All in all it was a great 2013, and plans are already underway for an even better 2014 racing season.
Come join us for the final event of 2013 this Sunday, and cheer on all the stars and cars that made 2013 a memorable one.
Gates open at 4 PM, with warm-ups at 5:45 PM and the first heat hitting the track at 6:15 PM.
Grandstand general admission is $15, with seniors, students (ages 13 to 17) and active military (all with proper ID) admitted for $13. As always, kids 12 and under are admitted free.
Pit participation fees are $30 for members and $40 for non-members.
The weather looks great, so come out and see some great racing. You'll be glad you did.
