Chase Billet Claims Late Model Victory at SSP on Saturday Night

Next Test & Tune at SSP on Wednesday, August 21


Newberrytown, PA (August 10, 2013) – Dover’s Chase Billet recorded his third Late Model victory of the season at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night, August 10. Littlestown’s Randy Zechman took his fifth win of the season in the Street Stocks. Chad Stine of York took his first Xtreme Stock victory of the 2013 season. Curt McDade of Carlisle won his second Road Warrior feature by leading all 15 laps of the race. Zakari Kitner of York Haven took his fifth Mini Van victory of the year. Auburn’s Aaron Brommer returned back to his winning ways taking the checkered flag in the 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature. Brian Gagliardo won the “Blast from the Past” Vintage Cars 15-lap feature. An overwhelming number of young racers participated in the annual Kid’s Box Car Racing on the frontstretch.


Racing action on the “Outback Track” was Friday night, August 9 found many drivers recording their names in the record books as new track records were set with special one-lap qualifying held before the feature races.


In Late Model action, Chase Billet led from start-to-finish to taking the 25-lap victory, with heavy pressure throughout the race. Billet claiming his third win of the season never led by more than three car lengths over several cars behind him vying for the runner-up spot. Kyle Martin scooted by Randy Christine Jr. coming out of turn four of the final circuit to finish second. Christine settled for third. Dan Zechman ran strong to finish fourth with Billy Wampler rounding out the top five. Wampler moved within seven points of current leader Justin Ehrhart for the “Chase for the Billet Cup.” Jed Latshaw was the JR’s Paving Hard Charger by finishing eighth after starting in 14th. Heat race wins went to Ehrhart and Christine Jr.


The 20-lap Street Stock feature saw Randy Zechman taking the checkers over Scott Thunberg and extending his lead in the track point chase. Zechman is looking to repeat his reign from 2012. Thunberg led laps five through ten until Zechman made the winning pass. Mike Kiehl came from deep in the pack to finish strong in third. Doug Bennett finished fourth with early leader Jim Palm Jr. rounding out the top five. Heat race winners included Bennert and Jasen Geesaman.


In the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car nightcap, Chad Stine took the lead on the second circuit and never succumbed to the pressure from Cameron Benyou and Donnie Broderick who finished second and third respectively. Early leader Rich Lomman came back from an early race spin to finish fourth. Dave Goode Sr. finished strong in fifth in a new ride for him this season. Broderick was also the Madison House East Hard Charger coming from the tenth starting spot. Lomman and Travis Horan won their respective heat races.


The 15-lap Road Warrior feature found Curt McDade wiring the field to take the win over Daryl Sipe and Thomas Thompson. Dennis Dorosz finished fourth with Brian Lefebvre coming across the line in fifth. Howard Williams, Sipe and Thompson were heat race winners.


The Mini Van feature found Zakari Kitner leading from start-to-finish to take the wib over Donny Groff and Jeremy Haines. John Kitner finished fourth. Groff won the sole heat race.


The 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature saw Aaron Brommer return back to his dominance when he bested Scott Rickrode and Rick Pastor. Brian Gagliardo and Stew Wenrich finished fourth and fifth respectively. Rickrode won the heat race.


The “Blast From the Past” Vintage Cars found Brian Gagliardo taking his second feature win in as many weeks in the 15-lapper over Lonnie Westhold and Ron Phillips. Robert Phillips and Kevin Kuser rounded out the top five. Gagliardo also won the heat race.


On Friday night, August 16 the sixth night of the Summer Shoot-Out Series will be held at the SSP Outback Track for quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars. The pit gates will open 5:45 p.m. with a driver’s meeting at 7:20 p.m. Open practice begins at 7:00 p.m. and racing action begins at 7:30 p.m. The entry fees for each class will be $20.00 per entry for drivers with the seasonal (Spring/Summer) license. Pit pass fees for the driver are included in the entry fee. Non-license driver’s entry fees will be $25.00. Participants may enter more than one class on a raceday ($12.00 for each additional class). Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each class regardless of class entry count. No participants will be denied racing as SSP will make every effort to define a class for all drivers who wish to compete.


Pit pass prices for non-drivers at the Outback Track will be $8.00 for everyone ages 18 & older; Teens & Children ages 11 – 17 are $5.00; Children 10 years of age and under are $3.00. Ages 2 & under are admitted free.


Another exciting night of racing action is on tap for the “Big Track” next Saturday night, August 17 with its annually popular Camera & Autograph Night. In the past, teams have distributed phots cards, candy, sponsor samples and more in the driver “Meet & Greet.” Racing action will include the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Road Warriors/Mini Vans and the PA Sprint Series. The Camera & Autograph Night is an event in which all fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers with their cars on the frontstretch before the PA Sprint Series feature event begins.


On Saturday, the pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warm-ups begin at 6:40 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.


General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the special event on Wednesday night, August 3 are Adults (ages 18-59) $14.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $12.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.


The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune for any type of racecar will be on Wednesday, August 21. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Each session will be 4-6 laps per session depending on car count. The grandstands are open free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 4/6 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will not be open. Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open throughout the night.


Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”

- JR's Paving Late Model Hard Charger Award - For every regular season Late Model feature event, JR's Paving will present a Hard Charger Award to the driver that improves the most positions from their starting spot in the feature event. The winner will receive either $100.00, $50.00 or $25.00 (based on a draw in victory lane) compliments of JR's Paving (Dover) and be eligible for post-season awards for accumulating the most Hard Charger Awards during the season. To be eligible for the Hard Charger Award per race, the driver must be on the lead lap and finish the race. If two drivers improve the same amount of positions, the tiebreaker will be the driver starting closer to the pole position being awarded the Hard Charger of the race.

2013 Wednesday Night Open Test & Tune Sessions

Big & Outback Tracks (Wednesdays): August 21; September 4; September 18


Big Track Only: October 2 (Wed.); October 16 (Wed.); October 23 (Wed.)


Big Track - Gates open 5:00 p.m.; Practice 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Outback Track on Wednesdays (Gates open 5:30 p.m.; Practice 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.)



The Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune is on August 21



The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune for any type of racecar will be on Wednesday, August 21. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Each session will be 4-6 laps per session depending on car count. The grandstands are open free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 4/6 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will not be open. Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open throughout the night.


Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”
