Knaub
Claims Third Late Model Feature at SSP on Saturday
Night
Up Next: Eichelberger’s U-Pull-It Super Show on Wednesday, July
3
Newberrytown,
PA (June 29, 2013) – Dover’s Gene Knaub claimed his third Late Model win of the
season in the 30-lap Steel Block Bandits Late Model Series race at the
Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday Night. Littlestown’s Randy Zechman won
his fourth Street Stock feature of the year. A rain storm claimed the Road
Warrior, Mini Vans and Xtreme Stock Car features.
In a 30-lap
Steel Block Bandits Late Model Series feature event littered with multiple
cautions due to spins, Gene Knaub grabbed the lead on the start from the pole
position. Knaub continued to lead after
every restart and led every lap to claim his third SSP victory of the
season. Chase Billet moved into the
runner-up spot on lap 17 but was unable to make the winning pass and settled for
second at the finish. Randy Christine
Jr. and J.R. Rodriguez battle side-by-side at the end with Christine edging out
Rodriguez by about a foot at the finish to take third spot. 2012 Steel Block Bandits Series champion Andy
Fries rounded out the top five. Dan
Zechman started twentieth and finished eighth to claim the JR’s Paving Hard
Charger award of the race. Knaub, Frye,
Eaton and Murphy were the heat race winners.
Scott Thunberg
led the field of Street Stocks to the green for the 20-lapper. Thunberg led the
first three circuits until Mike Walls took the lead on lap four. Similar to the same story line as last week,
Randy Zechman moved into the runner-up spot on lap 12, getting by runner-up Jim
Palm Jr. However, this week Zechman was
able to pass Walls for the lead on lap 15 instead of finishing behind Walls like
last weekend. Wall retired from the race
with mechanical failure on lap 17. With
a restart on lap 17, Bob Scott Jr. and Palm set their sights on Zechman for the
lead. Zechman was flawless and held on
for the victory over Scott. Palm settled
for third, followed by Jasen Geesaman and Scott Thunberg in fourth and fifth
respectively. Danny Beard and Walls were
heat race victors.
The final three
features (Road Warriors, Mini Vans and Xtreme Stock Cars) of the evening were
postponed to Saturday, July 27 when rains hit the speedway on lap 5 of the Road
Warrior feature. The 15-lap Road Warrior
feature will be resumed from lap five on Saturday, July 27. These three divisions will have double
features on that particular night.
An exciting
night of racing action is on tap for Wednesday night, July 3, with the

passes from April 24 must be presented for credit.

Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts
and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
