RAIN WASHES OUT BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY FOR 6th TIME IN
2013
MINERSVILLE, PA - JUNE 28th, 2013
If Mother Nature is a race
fan, she is having a very strange way of showing it this year. For the 6th time
this season, heavy rain and thunderstorms forced the cancellation of the racing
events scheduled for Big Diamond Speedway on Friday, June 28th.
Racing
returns to the speedway this coming Friday, July 5th for the 33rd annual Georgie
Stevenson Memorial for Modifieds going 33 laps and paying $3,300 to the
winner/$330 to take the green. This event has become a "must attend" event for
many fans and competitors alike, and this years event should be no different.
Also on the card that evening will be the Sportsman, Roadrunners, and 600cc
Modifieds. Fireworks will also be parts of the evenings events. Gates open at
5 PM and first heat hits the track at 8:15 PM.
Friday, July 12th, it's
time for the most unprecedented event in the history of Big Diamond Speedway.
It's time for FANdemonium. What is FANdemonium? FANdemonium is an event created
by track owners Jake and Jasmine Smulley to thank the most important people in
racing - the fans. How much will admission be to FANdemonium? Free. That's
right - free. All fans entering the grandstand area on the night of FANdemoium
will be admitted free of charge. When Jake and Jasmine purchased the track back
in October 2012, one of their main goals was to give the track a fresh start. A
new beginning. FANdemonium is part of this new beginning. This event, the
first of its kind in track history, is their way of showing the fans exactly how
important they are, and to thank them for their fantastic support so far in
2013 FANdemonium will consist of regular, points paying events for the
Modifieds, Sportsman, and Roadrunners. But the racing is only a small part of
the days activities. There will be plenty of activities for the kids and
giveaways for the fans. Plans are in the works to have dozens of cars on display
in the grandstand area. An autograph session is planned featuring many of your
favorite drivers, and much, much more.
Then on Friday, July 19th, Big
Diamond Speedway tries again to present the Crazy 8's for the Roadrunner
division. The ZY Pyrotechnics 358 Modifieds and USS Achey Sportsman will be on
the card with their normal 25 and 20 lap feature events respectfully, but what
everyone will be there to see is the fan favorite Savage 61 Roadrunners
competing in the Crazy 8's - four 8 lap feature events. Each 8 lap feature for
the Roadrunners will be a full, points paying event. The first feature will be
lined up by normal handicapping procedures. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th feature events
will be lined up via an invert number, drawn by the previous feature winner. The
invert numbers available will be 5 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 11 - and 13. Whatever number is
drawn for the 2nd feature will not be used again. Same thing for the 3rd and 4th
features. An invert number can only be used one time during the night. Should
make an interesting show even more interesting. The point standing are sure to
look a lot different once the night is over.
