WATT WINS HIS SECOND BIG BLOCK
MODIFIED FEATURE OF THE YEAR AT
BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
Bridgeport, NJ
(June 9, 2013) – On Nostalgia Night at Bridgeport
Speedway, Ryan Watt won
his second Big Block Modified feature of the
year. Bob Lilick took the
checkered flag in the Crate/Sportsman race
while his brother, Kris, won the
D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie
race. Ron Frees was the victor in the
Outlaw Stock Car feature.
At the start of the 30-lap Big Block Modified
feature, Sam Martz
grabbed the lead and was trailed by Scott Irwin, Bob
Sarkisian, Ryan
Watt, and Eric Kormann. After a first lap caution and
restart, Martz
remained on top. Watt, who started the event in ninth,
migrated into
third place on lap 4. With five tours recorded in the books,
Martz had
a half-straightaway advantage over Irwin, Watt, Kormann, and
Sarkisian. One revolution later, Martz’s comfortable margin
disappeared
as Dave Witte’s spin in the fourth corner brought out the
yellow flag.
Martz maintained his lead when racing resumed with Watt
slipping by Irwin
for the runner-up position. Watt was closing in on
Martz when the yellow
lights reappeared for Mike Iles on lap 8. As
action got back underway, Watt
blasted by Martz for the lead and
Kormann followed him to gain second
place. The top three of Watt,
Kormann, and Martz remained intact until the
yellow lights flickered
on during the twelfth circuit for Richie Pratt, Jr.
and David Hunt. On
the restart, Watt and Kormann waged a side-by-side
tussle for the lead
with Watt keeping the top running spot. Following a
caution period on
lap 13 for Scott Irwin, Watt repelled another attempt by
Kormann for
the lead. At the halfway point, Jimmy Horton drove into third
place.
Watt was beginning to pull away when the final yellow flag of the
event came out on lap 17 for the slowing cars of Dom Buffalino and
Martz. As the green flag waved for the last time, Watt continued to
set
the pace with Horton edging by Kormann for second and Rick Laubach
climbing
into fourth. With seven laps to go, Watt and Horton were in
close quarters.
As the final laps clicked off, Watt began to pull away
from Horton and
eventually, he comfortably crossed the finished line
in front for his
second win of the year. Horton wound up in second
with Kormann coming home
in third. Laubach was fourth and Pratt, Jr.
completed the race in fifth
place. Dave Witte, Bob Sarkisian, and Ryan
Watt were the winners in the Big
Block Modified heat races.
After taking the lead on the third tour, Bob
Lilick paced the field
for the remaining distance to win the 20-lap main
event for the
Crate/Sportsman. Prior to the win, Lilick’s last appearance
in victory
lane at Bridgeport Speedway was 2006. Kevin Belmont, who led the
first
two circuits, finished in the runner-up position. Marc Herman, Steve
Searock, and Mike Cogdill rounded out the top five. The Crate
Sportsman
qualifying events were taken by Matt Budd, Steve Searock,
and Marc
Herman.
Kris Lilick captured the 8-lap D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair
Rookie
Series feature for the third time this season. Ian Humphreys, Tyler
Hulmes, Jeff Bubori, and Jesse Bonaduce followed Lilick across the
finish line.
In the 15-lap Outlaw Stock Car feature, Ron Frees held
off a late
charge from Jimmy Avery to record his fourth victory of the
season.
Frees inherited the lead from Brian Ludwig on the eleventh tour
after
mechanical issues caused Ludwig to retire from the race. With Avery
taking second, Tom Wills, Sr. finished in third. Fourth went to Tom
Wills, Jr. and TJ Henry took fifth. Jimmy Avery and Tom Wills, Sr.
were
the victors in the Outlaw Stock Car heat races.
