BUFFALINO CASHES IN AT BRIDGEPORT
SPEEDWAY
Bridgeport, NJ (April 28, 2013) – On Kid’s Money Scramble Night
at
Bridgeport Speedway, Dominick Buffalino took the top cash prize with a
win in the Big Block Modified feature. In a tight finish, Marc Herman
took the checkered flag in the Crate/Sportsman main event. The Rookie
race was won by Ian Humphries with Terry Griffin topping the field in
the Outlaw Stock Car feature.
From his pole starting position, Tom
Maccherone shot out to the front
of the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature
and was followed by Neil
Huber, Ron Roberts, and Dominick Buffalino. By the
third circuit,
Buffalino had motored into the runner-up spot. With ten
tours
completed, Maccherone had a narrow lead over Buffalino. By lap 14,
Maccherone had Buffalino locked onto his back bumper. On the next
tour,
Maccherone and Buffalino waged a side-by-side battle on the
frontstretch
and Buffalino was able slip by Maccherone to gain the
lead. Rick Laubach,
who started the event in fifteenth place,
continued his charge to the front
as he moved into third place on lap
17. One circuit later, the first
caution flag of the race waved for a
stopped Sean Gunther. When action got
back underway, Buffalino
maintained his advantage with Laubach, Roberts,
and Maccherone in tow.
A multi-car accident in turn four on lap 19 slowed
the action once
again. On the ensuing restart, the red flag appeared as a
three-car
tangle in the first corner left the cars of Matt Harrell and Sam
Martz
with heavy damage. When green flag racing resumed, Buffalino kept
his
lead with Laubach, Roberts, Don Cogdill, III and Scott Irwin in his
tracks. The top two of Buffalino and Laubach slowly began to pull away
from their rivals until Richie Pratt’s ride developed a flat with four
circuits remaining. On the single file restart, the top three of
Buffalino, Laubach, and Roberts remained in order and were immediately
followed by Irwin and Eric Kormann. Action stopped with two tours to
go
as Richie Pratt, Jr. and Mike Barone tangled near the starter
stand. As the
green lights illuminated, the top three stayed intact
with Kormann moving
into fourth and Cogdill, III taking over fifth.
Ryan Watt’s flat tire
brought out the final yellow flag with one lap
to go. Following the last
green flag, Buffalino was able to keep his
advantage on the final lap. Just
as Buffalino crossed the finish line
to win his first Big Block Modified
race at Bridgeport Speedway, his
right rear tire became flat. The runner-up
spot went to Laubach. With
Roberts holding on to finish in third, Kormann
came home in fourth and
Cogdill, III wound up in fifth. Dom Buffalino, Ron
Roberts, and Scott
Irwin won the Big Block Modified heat races.
In
the 20-lap Crate/Sportman main event, Marc Herman nosed out Brad
Roberts
for his second victory of the season. Dave Damiano set the
pace for the
opening seven circuits before Roberts gained control.
Herman, the tenth
place starter, had scurried into the runner-up
position with nine tours
recorded. Following a last lap restart,
Roberts and Herman waged a nip and
tuck battle for the lead throughout
the final circuit. As they crossed the
finish line, Herman was inches
ahead of Roberts. Mike Cogdill, Bob Lilick,
and Steve Davis completed
the top five. The Crate/Sportsman qualifying
contests were taken by
Ricky DiEva, Marc Herman, and Steve
Searock.
Ian Humphries used a last lap restart to pass Jeff Bubori to win
his
second D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie Series feature of the year.
Humphries was followed by Bubori, Jesse James Bonaduce, Kris Lilick,
and Tyler Hulmes.
In the 15-lap Outlaw Stock Car feature, Terry
Griffin survived a last
lap restart to capture his first checkered flag of
the season. Tom
Wills, Jr. claimed the runner-up spot with John Parker
coming home in
third. Fourth went to Ron Frees and newcomer TJ Henry was
rewarded
with a fifth place finish. Terry Griffin, Pat Conaway, and Brian
Ludwig were victors in the Outlaw Stock Car heat races.
Racing on the
5/8th mile resumes on Saturday, May 4. The action is set
to include Big
Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman, Outlaw Stock Cars,
and D.A.’s Auto Body
and Repair Rookies. A House of Rock house band
will be performing in the
grandstand pavilion before the action gets
underway. In addition, a Sumo
Wrestling contest will take place with
prizes for the winner and a free
moon bounce will be available for
children. Gates to the pits will open at
3:30 p.m. and grandstand
turnstiles unlock at 4:30 p.m. The first race
starts at 6:00 p.m.
