MORE ENTRANTS FOR BRIDGEPORT’S 60 OVER SPECIAL AND ADDITIONAL
MONEY
FOR OUTLAW STOCK CAR SHOOT OUT SERIES
Bridgeport, NJ (March
26, 2013) – With Bridgeport Speedway’s “60 Over
Special” just a few days
away, more Big Block Modified drivers have
enrolled in the “60 Over
Challenge.” Mike Barone, Jimmy Blewett, Rick
Laubach, Ron Roberts, Craig
Von Dohren, and Ryan Watt are the latest
entrants to join Jimmy Horton and
Neal Williams as early enrollees.
With the $60 gambler’s fee, these drivers
are now eligible for the
first place prize of $6,060.60 instead of the
posted $4,000 victor’s
share.
The “60 Over Special”, featuring a
60-lap Race of Champions race for
the Big Block Modifieds , takes place at
Bridgeport Speedway on
Saturday, March 30. This special event honors Doug
Hoffman, the late
promoter of the track. In addition, this race will serve
as the first
hand of Bridgeport Speedway’s Poker Series for the Big Block
Modifieds. A star-studded field is expected to include Brett Hearn,
Bobby Varin, Billy Decker, JR Heffner, Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Jimmy
Phelps, Billy Pauch, Duane Howard, and Ryan Godown.
The Outlaw Stock
Car Shoot-Out Series sponsored by Black Flagged
Racing gets underway with
the 20-lap Bill Reynolds Memorial Race. This
initial contest will honor the
late Bridgeport Speedway novelty stand
owner. Recently, several new bonuses
have been added. Lee Hansen of
First Class Painting in Williamstown, NJ has
added $200 to the
winner’s share and the top place finisher in each of the
20-lap Outlaw
Stock Car Shoot-Out races will go home with $500. For the
opening race
of this new series, Carl Thomas Racing is adding a $50 bonus
to each
heat race winner. With the extra cash, the victors of the Outlaw
Stock
Car qualifying events on March 30 will receive $100. In addition,
Carl
Thomas Racing is sponsoring lap 11 for $50 and the first alternate
for
the feature race will take home $50. The new Crate/Sportsman division
will round out the card with a 30-lap Poker Series contest.
For this
special opening day event, several additional activities are
scheduled to
take place. Katie Todorow, Miss Motorsports 2013, will be
on hand. An
Easter Egg Hunt will occur in the quarter mile pit area
near the main
grandstand entrance. A balloon launch is slated to be
held before the first
qualifying race takes place. Introduced last
season and very popular with
fans, the Big Block Modifieds will be
staged on the midway behind the
spectator stands. After being on
display throughout the day, a restored “60
Over” 1986 Olsen Modified
formerly driven by Doug Hoffman will pace the
feature line-up. Just
before the 60-lap race begins, the missing man
formation will take
shape on the 5/8th mile. Joette Hoffman, Doug’s
daughter, will wave
the green flag to get the contest underway. All fans
and crew members
are encouraged to stand on the opening circuit and final
tour of the
race. Numerous new novelty items will be on sale during the
day
including a Doug Hoffman photo collage and memorial sticker. 2013
Poker Series shirts and hoodies can be purchased as well.
On
Saturday, March 30, the pit gates swing open at 11:00 a.m. with the
grandstand turnstiles opening at 1:00 p.m. Hot laps get cranked up at
3:00 p.m. and racing starts at 4:00 p.m. Adult (16 and older)
admission
for the opener will be $25 with students (10-15) being
admitted for $12.
Kids 9 and under are free. Admittance to the pits
is
$35.
