READING, PA - All systems are “go” for
the 28th annual Berks-Schuylkill Oil Heat Association Racing Legends Reunion
& Car Show.
The weeklong pre-season auto racing showcase
at the Fairgrounds Square Mall, located on the former site of the famed Reading
Fairgrounds Speedway on 5th Street Highway in Muhlenberg Township, kicks off
Sunday, Feb. 24 and runs through Saturday, March 2. The show, free to the
public, is open during standard mall hours.
Registration for the event is ongoing online
at www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com and www.thunderonthehillracingseries.com. All types of vehicles are welcome
and space is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a $25 per
vehicle entry fee to cover insurance.
A random drawing of pre-registered teams
prior to Jan. 15 rewarded car owner Dennis 'Chico' Bailey with a $50 gas card.
He will receive the card upon his arrival at the mall with the Terry
Meitzler-driven No. 81 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series 358-Modified he fields
at Grandview (Pa.) Speedway.
Among the types of vehicles already entered
into the show include big-block and small-block Modifieds, ARDC Midgets,
SpeedSTRs, Street Stocks, Sportsman Modifieds, Late Models and Super Late
Models, Vintage Cars, go-karts, Slingshots, XCel 600 Modifieds, Micro-Sprints
and much more.
The Reading Fairgrounds Speedway Racing
Historical Society plans to assemble a vast display honoring the 'Home of
Champions' which hosted its final event in June 1979 with restored race cars,
memorabilia and items on sale.
Vendors will be present selling merchandise,
collectibles, photos, videos and other novelties. Official Racing Legends
Reunion program books and apparel will also be on sale.
A large contingent of speedways and
sanctioning bodies has made plans to be present at the Racing Legends Reunion to
distribute news and information for the approaching 2013
season.
Both New Jersey dirt tracks will have
representatives and displays on hand for the first time in show history.
Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway, under the new leadership of Keith Hoffman, Dave
Adams and Danny Serrano, and New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway, this season featuring
358-Modifieds as a headliner under sole owner Fred Vahlsing's watch, will
participate.
Big Diamond (Pa.) Speedway new owner Jake
Smulley will take advantage of the show to promote his plans for the Schuylkill
County track. JeffreyHogueRealtor.com Action Track USA (formerly Pa.'s Kutztown
Fairgrounds) plans an expansive presence at the show with Doug Rose and Rich
Tobias Jr. taking the lead of the Berks County oval. Last year's track champions
will highlight the display in addition to SpeedSTR cars to be piloted by
Northeast racing stars.
Others setting up at the show include
Grandview Speedway/Thunder on the Hill Racing Series, American Racing Drivers
Club (ARDC), United Racing Company (URC), BD Motorsports Media/Friese-Deyo
Promotions, LANCO's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, the Montgomery County
Quarter Midget Racing Club and more.
The Temple (Pa.) Fire Company will again
play host to the popular BASH Racing Awards Party on Friday night of the show
(March 1) beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets
will be on sale at the show and at the door for $10 and includes snacks, a cash
bar and music for dancing.
Show awards - highlighted by the fourth
presentation of the Don Marks Memorial Contribution to Motorsports Award - will
be handed out at the BASH. There will be divisional awards and an overall,
fan-voted, Best of Show handed out at the BASH.
The Don Marks Memorial Contribution to
Motorsports Award was first handed out in 2010 to honor the memory of late
Grandview Speedway and Area Auto Racing News photographer Marks, who passed away
in 2008. Previous award recipients include Bob Greene of Pioneer Pole Buildings
(2012), car owner, fabricator and former racer Dennis ‘Chico’ Bailey (2011) and
Area Auto Racing News publisher/promoter Len Sammons (2010).
A first-time show marketing partner, the
Berks-Schuylkill Oil Heat Association (BSOHA) exists to promote and educate
current and prospective heating oil customers as to the benefits of oil heat.
BSOHA members are local oil companies and associate businesses that service the
oil heat industry.
These local companies provide a wide range
of products and services to enhance their customers' satisfaction, as well as a
