Brett Hearn Initiates a Driver Development Program

SUSSEX, NJ (November 12)……..Matt Pappa, the US Legends 2012 Pro Division National Points Champion, will take a giant step in his racing career next season when he begins driving for Brett Hearn’s BH Racing Enterprises, Inc. team’s Sportsman No. 20jr.

The 15-year-old Nassau, New York native won 45 races in 2012 en route to the US Legends Pro Points and Touring Championship. Pappa also captured the point title at New York’s Chemung Speedrome.

Hearn’s inaugural Driver Development Program will put Pappa in a car identical in design to the other race cars in the BH Racing/Madsen Motorsports stable. (Sportsman cars employ the same basic chassis and running gear as full Modifieds, but utilize restricted sealed engines.) Pappa will race the full season at Lebanon Valley Speedway (West Lebanon, New York) with the goal of entering a number of the big end-of-season Sportsman events.

“Helping the next generation get started in the sport was a logical move for BH Racing, said Hearn. “Rolfe Schnur of Motorsports On Demand introduced Matt and his family to me and they came to Eastern States Weekend to see how we work. It’s not often you get the opportunity to interact with a 15-year-old who has already won a National Championship. I’m really looking forward to working with Matt.”

“This is like a dream come true,” said Pappa. “Being mentored by Brett Hearn and having my car prepared by his shop is like a movie script. I know this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I can’t wait to start testing and learning from Brett at Lebanon Valley.”

Hearn just completed his 38^th season of racing, winning 20 times in 80 starts coupled with 57 top-five finishes and 66 top-tens. He also won the Modified point titles at Lebanon Valley Speedway and Malta, New York’s Albany-Saratoga Speedway. Hearn charged through the late season championship races winning the Lebanon Valley Mr. Dirt Track USA 100, the King of the Catskills 100 at Accord (New York) Speedway, the VP Race Fuels S.E. F. 200 at the New York State Fairgrounds, sweeping both Eastern States 100 and 200 at Orange County Fair Speedway (Middletown, New York), and closing out his year winning the nationally televised DIRTcar World Finals event from the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
