RISLONE URC SPRINT SERIES
STILLWAGGON & FRANEK BATTLE FOR URC DRIVER TITLE, KENNEDY & FRANEK SR IN RACE FOR OWNERS TITLE, URC WILL REACH 1,500 ALL TIME EVENTS ON SEPTEMBER 29 AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY
The Rislone URC Sprint Series will invade the New Egypt Speedway (New Egypt, NJ) on Saturday night, September 29 and a torrid battle is in place for the 2012 URC Driver and Owners Championship title. The New Egypt URC event will reach a historic landmark as statistician Steve Barrick reports that this event will mark the 1,500th URC show in their sixty-five year history. Just two point races remain on the 2012 Rislone URC schedule to include New Egypt on Saturday night, September 29 and the finale to take place at the Grandview Speedway on Saturday night, October 13.
Robbie Stillwaggon now leads the Rislone URC Driver point chase with only a twenty-five point advantage over Davie “no panic” Franek of Wantage, NJ. Stillwaggon has one URC win this season as Franek is seeking his first win of the season. Making up the top five in current URC Driver points is Josh Weller, Kevin Darling and Randy West. Both Stillwaggon and Franek are chasing down their first career URC Championship Driver Title and it is likely that it will all be decided at Grandview on October 13. URC also awards Owner points and in fact, the point fund money will be paid to the top ten car Owners of URC in 2012. Popular URC car owner Fred Kennedy leads the URC Owners point chase with 1,492 points over Dave Franek Sr. with 1,451. Kennedy is the car owner of the #89 driven by Stillwaggon and also owns the #56 driven by Randy West, also in the top five in points. For Kennedy and Franek Sr., this would also mark their first ever URC Owners Championship title.
The season finale at the Grandview Speedway on Saturday, October 13th is sponsored by Pioneer Pole Buildings and will pay the URC feature winner $3,000. This event is part of the Grandview Thunder 5-25’s features only event. The top twenty in URC points will be invited to take part in this unique season finale.
URC is rich in history and now in their sixty-fifth season, the show at New Egypt Speedway will mark their 1,500th event. Over the past 1,499 events, a total of 256 different drivers were URC feature winners. Glenn Fitzcharles holds the record for the most feature wins in a single season, scoring twenty-one victories in 1987. In 1985, Dave Kelly won nineteen features.
Buck Buckley holds the record for most consecutive winning seasons, Buckley went twelve years in a row winning URC feature events. Hank Rogers still holds the record for most wins in a row, winning nine consecutive features, Buck Buckley and Glenn Fitzcharles both won eight features consecutively.
In the sixty-five year history of URC, there were for ties for the feature win. On 7/3/1954 at the Hatfield Speedway, Bert Brooks and Tony Romit shared victory lane, on 9/12/1959 at the Selinsgrove Speedway, Al Chamberlain and Dave Humphrey ended the race in a photo finish shared win. At the Oswego Speedway on 7/29/1961, Jimmy Maguire and Don Gillette took the checker flag in a tie at the wire and on 9/1/1969 Toby Tobias and Earl Halaquist shared victory lane in URC’s fourth dead heat finish, taking place at the Flemington Fair Speedway.
On the all-time career win ranking, Glenn Fitzcharles holds 81 URC feature wins over Dave Kelly with 76, Kramer Williamson with 67, Buck Buckley with 60 and Earl Halaquist owns 52 career URC wins. Special thanks again to statistician Steve Barrack for these historic news bits.
