TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE DECIDED AT SSP SATUURDY NIGHT SPETEMBER, 15

-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Track Championships to be Decided This Saturday, September 15 at SSP (6:00 p.m. Starting Time)

Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune on September 19

Newberrytown, PA (September 11, 2012) – Racing action returns to the Big Track at SSP on Saturday, September 15 with return of Stock Car Saturday Night featuring the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Road Warriors and the PA Sprint Series. There will also be a special awards presentation for the SSP Outback Track Summer season.

It will also be the Hometown Heroes Night recognizing all SSP drivers from the towns of York Haven, Hanover, Thomasville and Littlestown. Before the racing action begins, the drivers from these towns will have the opportunity to display their cars and meet the fans on the frontstretch of the speedway just before the National Anthem is played. Also, all fans entering the speedway from that driver's hometown being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth.

In the Late Model division, York’s Carl Billet only needs to take the green flag of his qualifying heat race to claim his seventh career SSP Late Model track championship. His other championships were in 1986, 1989, 1990, 2000, 2007 and 2008. He is also currently the all-time feature winner at SSP with fifty-seven (57). Should Billet fail to start the heat or feature, the battle for the championship will then be between rookie driver J.R. Rodriguez and last year’s champion Justin Ehrhart who are separated by five points.

In the Street Stock class, Randy Zechman of Littlestown can claim his second career track championship at SSP (the other coming in 2010) by qualifying for and taking the green flag in the feature event. If Zechman fails to qualify for the feature, Scott Thunberg could win the track championship only by winning the 20-lap feature event.

The Xtreme Stock division will literally be decided on the final lap of the race as Patrick McClane of York and Lewisberry’s Adam Smith are only separated by one point. The championship will be decided by the driver who finishes ahead of the other in 20-lap feature event. This would be the first track championship for either driver. If certain unfortunate circumstances fall upon McClane and Smith, there is an outside chance that either Donnie Broderick or Chad Stine could claim the track title for themselves.

The Road Warrior division title will be claimed by Carlisle’s Curt McDade upon starting either the heat race or feature. Should McDade fail to start either race, Dennis Dorosz could claim the track championship from McDade.

General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the special event on Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $14.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $12.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.

On Saturday, the pit gates will now open at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.

The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune for any type of racecar will be on Wednesday, September 19. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Each session will be 4-6 laps per session depending on car count. The grandstands are open free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 4/6 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller's Racing Parts will not be open. Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller's Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open throughout the night. There will be no more test & tunes for the Outback Track for the remainder of the 2012 season.

During the season, SSP will also host Wednesday Night Test & Tune Sessions on October 3; October 17 and October 25 (Thursday). All Wednesday night practices will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
