BIG DIAMOND ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN SATURDAY NIGHT
SCHEDULE
With
regret, Big Diamond Speedway promoters, Fritz and Krista Roehrig made the
announcement on Monday to discontinue their Saturday night racing schedule on
the 3/8 mile speedway. The 2012 season schedule at Big Diamond was an
aggressive one with two nights of racing scheduled from April through August.
Due to the recent illness of Fritz Roehrig, it has become impossible for the
Roehrig family to meet the demands of the schedule as had been previously
posted.
It is the
intention of the Roehrigs to complete the construction of the "Little Diamond"
track as soon as possible. The grand opening of the Little Diamond had been
scheduled for mid-May and while it is doubtful that work will be completed in
time for the mid-May date, the Roehrigs are committed to completing this project
as soon as possible. Fritz Roehrig has been overseeing the construction on the
smaller track and views the addition of the "Little Diamond" as a vital aspect
of the future of the Big Diamond Speedway facility. Saturday night racing will
be held on the Little Diamond as soon as the work is completed. Dates will be
posted as they become available.
The ARDC
Midgets, TSRS 305 Sprint Cars and Tobias SpeedSTRs all had a vested interest in
the Saturday night program. When they were notified of the need to cancel the
Saturday night programs going forward, Krista Roehrig was taken aback by these
organizations who responded with compassion and understanding while offering to
do whatever they could to assist the speedway. These three classes have been
offered Friday night dates at Big Diamond as scheduling permits. When the
construction of the Little Diamond track is completed, the Xcel 600 Modifieds
and Legend cars will be given the opportunity to participate in the Saturday
night programs held on the smaller track.
The three
Saturday dates for the AMA Motorcycles WILL continue as scheduled. May 5,
August 11 and September 8 are the dates of the events that are being promoted by
the AMA.
