LONGO, WAHL AND OLEJNIK EACH EARN VICTORIES IN ROUND TWO OF THE NEETS ASPHALT SERIES…

March 10, 2012 – Wall NJ – The North East Enduro Tour Series presented race #2 of the Scott Dunn Auto Service Asphalt Series this past Saturday afternoon at the Wall Stadium Speedway. Three new winners emerged victorious in the “Shamrock Shakedown” including Rob Longo (Big Car 104-lap Enduro), Mike Wahl (Small Car 104-laps Enduro) and Tiffany Olejnik (10-lap Ladies Race).

Longo, a former Street Stock champion at the speedway, executed an intelligent race after working diligently to take the runner-up spot through traffic. At race’s end, Longo crossed the finish line in second, however, the apparent winner Scott Sipe was disqualified in post race tech. Therefore, Longo picked up his first win of the season in the Big Car Enduro.

Sipe started from the third spot and quickly worked past pole sitter Felix Ciattarelli. Longo passed Ciattarelli and eventually gained ground on the race leading Sipe. Longo attempted to pass on several occasions but Sipe denied each challenge. Longo, a local racing talent out of Wall NJ, followed up his season opening 10th place finish (January 14) with a victory in his potent #45 machine.

Well accomplished endurance racer, Richard Petey charged back through the field after tangling with Paul Hartwig Jr. earlier in the contest, and powered to an impressive runner-up finish. Ciattarelli grabbed the third position followed by Lee Allen (who has now finished no worse than fourth in the first two events) and opening event winner “Dr. Destruction” Howie Bott. The 104-lap contest, known as the “Lucky Charms 104”, was a good, clean event featuring no red flag stoppages.

Wahl of East Islip NY held off a variety of drivers to capture the hard earned Small Car event victory. Wahl is inches shy of a perfect season thus far, as he finished in the runner-up position back on opening day.

Pat Hires started from the pole with Scott Dunn in pursuit. Hires and Dunn exchanged the lead on several occasions while Scott Adams watched from the third position. Adams, an asphalt Modified competitor during the regular season, impressively worked past both competitors and swept into the race lead. Unfortunately, Adams became tangled in a crash and was forced out of the race lead and into the pit area for a stop. Dunn and Hires continued their fantastic battle up front and brought along Wahl and opening event winner Dan Birdsall. The top four raced closely until Dunn’s machine lost a tire in turn four sending him to the infield. Ironically, the loose wheel ventured around the speedway for nearly one circuit by itself.

The front battle remained at three as Hires held off the challenges of Wahl and Birdsall. As time ran out, however, handling issues became a problem for Hires and Wahl took possession of the race lead. Wahl captured the victory with Birdsall hanging on for second. In a miraculous recovery, Adams rebounded for third after falling down three laps from the earlier incident. He was nearly on the lead lap by the event’s conclusion. Hires held on for fourth and second generation racer Justin Dunn finished fifth.

Once taking the lead, Tiffany Olejnik dominated the 10-lap Ladies Race, picking up her first NEETS win of the season.
