BIG DIAMOND MALL SHOW CONCLUDES WITH AWARDS
Daryl Dissinger Race2aCure Selected Best in Show
The first event of the 2012 Big Diamond Speedway schedule came to a close with the presentation of awards during Friday night activities at the Fair Lane Village Mall where thirty race cars were displayed throughout the week.
On display throughout the mall, the cars represented the broad spectrum of competition scheduled to appear at the Schuylkill County speed plant this season. The Modifieds of Dale Hartz, Gary Wagner and Doug Manmiller were joined by Sportsman competitors Charles Webber, Tim Fitzpatrick, Daryl Dissinger and Doug Hendricks and the Roadrunners of Glenn Rowan, Jesse Karsnitsky, Joey Brennen and TJ Fitzpatrick - all representing the divisions of Friday night competition at Big Diamond.
Representing the Saturday night competitors were the ARDC midgets of Alex and Brenden Bright, Justin Riegel's Thunder Car, Alex Shofstall's Slingshot, the 270 Micro Sprints of Jonathan Weiland, Ken Duke Jr., Darrel Troxell, Don Werner and Hayden Miller. Also on hand were the 600 Modified of former Sportsman competitor, Jordan Dreher, the Pro Stock of Timothy Vidal, the Speedster of Rick Eckert and the vintage car of Big Diamond announcer, Tim Pitts. Joining in the Race2aCure display were also the quarter midgets of Morgan Long and Aidan Svanda.
Best Appearing Car Awards were given in four categories with a fifth award presented to the car that was selected as the Best in Show. Dale Hartz's #15 was the Best Appearing Modified while the T-102 of Tim Fitzpatrick took the honors in the Sportsman Division. Joey Brennen's Roadrunner was selected as the Best Appearing Roadrunner in the show with the Slingshot of Jonthan Weiland winning for the Support Divisions. Daryl Dissinger's Race2aCure car was selected as the Best in Show.
Six teams competed in the annual tire change competition. Each two person team was timed as they changed the rear tires on Dissinger's Sportsman. Jordan Dreher and Brandon Aungst were the winners at 54.8 seconds followed by Andrew Geist and Wayne Wolfe with time of 56.2 seconds. Tim Fitzpatrick Senior and Junior finished in third with a time of 59.2 seconds. The other three teams took in excess of one minute to complete their task - still very fast times for the two tire change.
A random drawing was held for an American Racer tire among all competitors who purchased their license for the 2012 season during the mall show. Tim Fitzpatrick was the winner of the free tire.
