5TH ANNUAL NAPA AUTO PARTS DIRT TRACK HEROES CAR SHOW CONCLUDES SUCCESSFUL WEEK LONG RUN AT THE PHILLIPSBURG MALL
The 5th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Dirt Track Heroes Show concluded it's very successful week long show on Saturday as the driving legends from the Flemington Speedway were highlighted with a great show that consumed 3 and 1/2 hours as audience participation brought many great questions to the all-star panel of driving stars and brought many humorous comments and stories from them when responding to the questions shows. The premier event organizational team headed up by Bob and Donna Miller and the NAPA Auto Parts Group of the Delaware Valley headed up by Regional Director John Niles were happy with the overall turnout of cars and fans and it is hoped details for next edition of the show will be announced very shortly. The well noted broadcasting team of Ed and Steve Pados along with Bobby Stull brought the showcase event to a close with another great show and with 116 pristine and historical racing cars and close to 200 interviews highlighted the weeklong event.
The legends of the Flemington Speedway were front and center for the final day of the show as the star-studded group with each of the drivers sharing stories and talking about their exciting racing days of competing at the famous square-shaped Flemington Speedway and the many behind the scenes humorous stories that had the great crowd on hand in stitches for most of the extended chat session. Ed and Steve Pados opened the show by once again introducing NAPA Representative John Niles to the large crowd on hand and John thanked the show organizers and the fans for their support of the show. Gordon Crowell, from two day show sponsor Corey Mechanical, was introduced next and he too was appreciative of all of the support from everyone involved with the show and the fans and prospective customers his group signed up as potential clients. Bob Miller was introduced and he thanked everyone especially the Pados Brothers for taking the lead in the success of the show. Mark Harrington from the Flemington Speedway Historical Society explained the importance of the Mall shows as a prime example of informing the fans about the history of racing and their organization formed in 2009. DARE 2B BAD Trikeman Sonny Croughn was introduced to the crowd and received a large ovation for his support of the show with his one of a kid creation and the fact he is celebrating 50 years in the racing and auto styling business in 2012.
The show kicked off and the showcase of driving stars included "The Everett Express" Gerald Chamberlain, Sammy Beavers, Ken Brenn Sr, Ray Liss, Wyatt Jacobus, Nate Strunk, Phil Cox, Newt Hartman, Pete Madsen, Rick Chilmonick, Phil Meisner, Steve Makocy, Richie Hinkle, Johnny Strupp, John Bate, Steve Jones, George Amerman, Jay Aten, Paul Rochelle III and Gar Frey all shared in the great stories of the Flemington square and many of the stories were shared for the first time. David Polenz, the Whelen All American Series Champion at the Old Dominion Speedway, was on hand to sign autographs and became involved with the questions asked to the driving legends.
Gary and Ronda Phillips from the Friends of Nazareth Display Booth presented Ed and Steve Pados with a beautiful profile picture of the announcing duo from a recent show. The conclusion of the show has event organizers thanking NAPA Auto Parts of the Delaware Valley, IRCO Community Federal Credit Union, Gasoline Alley and the WALN Studios, Smith Fabrications/Home of the Stage One Modifieds, Moe Pagni's Outten Used Car Center, Hamlin Speedway/S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts, Caffe Europa, Corey Mechanical, R&F International Muffler and Brake, PR Performance, Gaetano's Restaurant, Spike Chassis, , Joe "The Pizza Dude" GA Motorsports Media, Coastal 181 and the great communications work of Matt Mahoney with all of their help to provide the Tri State area for the continuance of the best Mall show in the country today. The event organizers would also like to thank all of the historical racing groups including the Flemington Group, Greg Collins from Harmony, Henry and Sue Wilt from Dorney Park, Wyatt Jacobus and Tri State Memorabilia, Gary and Ronda Phillips from Friends of Nazareth and the video groups for their support of the show and to continue to work on collecting the vast memorabilia collections for the fans to come out and take the exciting trip down memory lane as their scrapbooks and photo collections received a workout during the weeklong celebration of the past, present and future of the motorsports world.
All racing divisions were well represented at the show and included big and small block Modifieds, Sportsman, Micro-Sprints, ARDC Midgets, URC Sprints, TSRS Sprints, Late Models, go-karts and a broad variety of vintage and restored race cars. Many race tracks utilized this event as an opportunity to get the word out on their up-coming 2012 racing season and all tracks indicated they were very pleased with the excellent turnout of fans all week long.
The NAPA Auto Parts Dirt Track Heroes Car Show again offered a great keepsake event souvenir program book and event shirts. Included in the program were superb stories regarding "A Short History of the Nazareth Speedway", "Terrible" Tom Hager, and a new segment titled "People We Remember in Racing" regarding Harold Cope, Otto Harwi and Jerry Fried.
