KUTZTOWN'S NAPA DUTCH CLASSIC TO HIEBER; BUCKWALTER, HARTMAN, & WHITBY ALSO WINNERS ON AUGUST 10

Kutztown, Pa. - August 10 - Gary Hieber utilized a pole position start to leave the Kutztown Fair Speedway with more than $750 in his wallet on Wednesday evening after his victory in the NAPA Auto Parts Dutch Classic for the All Star Slingshots.

Hieber, from Langhorne, Pa., was joined in the winner's circle by Tim Buckwalter (Wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints); Richie Hartman (Winged 270cc Micros); and Eric Whitby (Xcel Sportsman Modifieds).

Wednesday's Dutch Classic drew a banner field of 119 racecars among the four weekly divisions, and that total should easily be surpassed on August 16, 17, and 18 during the annual Kutztown Fair events.

The UGI HVAC/ RTS Chassis Fair Week Nationals begin on Tuesday, August 16, with time trials and two rounds of qualifying heats for the Wingless 600 and Winged 270 Micro-Sprints. They will be joined by the All Star Slingshots, competing in their final point race of 2011.

On Wednesday, August 17, the Junior Slingshot National Tour visits the fairgrounds, joining the Wingless 600 and Winged 270's as both Micro-Sprint Classes take part in last-chance qualifying events and 30-lap A-Mains. With a minimum of 30 cars per class, each A-Main will reward the winning driver with a $1,000 paycheck. UGI Corp., through its heating, plumbing, and air conditioning service group, joins forces with Reading's Micro-Sprint manufacturer RTS Chassis to sponsor the Fair Week Nationals.

The final night of the current racing season at Kutztown occurs on Thursday, August 18, when the Xcel 600 Modified Tour invades the one-fifth mile oval. Their little brothers, the Xcel Sportsman Modifieds, and Outlaw Quad racing will provide support as the broadsliding stars of the Xcel Modified Tour present their close quarters, take-no-prisoners brand of competition.

Gary Hieber, the current All Star Slingshot point leader at the fairgrounds, led wire to wire in Wednesday's 30-lap NAPA Auto Parts Dutch Classic.

Hieber motored away from runner-up Brett Bieber on each of the race's five restarts and handled heavy lapped traffic with ease during the event's stretches of green flag racing.

Seventh starting Matt Carman sliced his way to third by lap seven, but his forward progress ended there. Youthful charger A.J. Gerhart traded the fourth position with 2009 National Slingshot Champion Cody Kline on several occasions before Gerhart claimed the spot for good.

Hieber crossed the stripe with an advantage of three-quarters of a second over B. Bieber, with Carman settling for third. Gerhart finished fourth in a great run, with Kline earning fifth place money.

Hieber also picked up the Halfway Leader bonus money provided by the NAPA stores in Kutztown and Boyertown, and he also turned the quickest lap of the night, thereby collecting additional bonus dollars from Strapped In Racing Magazine.

Tayllor Schoenly was the Dutch Classic's Hard Charger, gaining 11 positions during the 30-lapper and earning a cash award from Kim's Kreations.

Kim's Kreations also presented Clint Miller with a monetary award for being the Hard Luck Driver on Wednesday.

Speedway Entertainment Contingency Prizes went to Matt Carman, Kurt Bettler, and Danny Buccafusca.

Travis Bieber, Cody Kline, Shannon Smith, A.J. Gerhart, Bill Weaver, and Robbie Hocker triumphed in the RPM New & Used Slinger Parts heat races. Clint Miller took the checkered in the last chance B-Main.

The NAPA Auto Parts Dutch Classic pulled a field of 30 All Star Slingshot teams.

Tim Buckwalter, Douglassville, was out front for all 20 laps of the Wingless 600cc main event. Buckwalter captured his second consecutive Kutztown Fair Speedway victory, but Ryan Smith made him sweat a bit at the end.

Smith ducked under Tyler Esh to grab third spot on the sixth trip around the oval, then passed Molly Chambers two laps later to secure the runner-up position.

Try as he might, Smith could not find the opening he needed to unseat Buckwalter for the top spot - and he tried high and low during the final ten circuits.

Shane Lewis, who spun twice in the early laps, battled back from the rear of the pack to finish fourth behind third place Kyle Lick. Esh completed the top five.

Buckwalter received the Halfway Leader Bonus from NAPA of Kutztown and Boyertown.

Brian Carber, Smith, and Rick Perone won heat races for the Wingless 600's, and Trevor Kobylarz captured the consolation race. A total of 31 cars took part in the night's action.

Jeff Hartman's 16th place finish, combined with Brett Schoenly's early demise due to a crash at the end of the backstretch, enabled Hartman to win his second straight 600cc point title at Kutztown. Hartman, from Flagtown, NJ, wound up with a margin of just 42 points over Schoenly.

Richie Hartman, Shoemakersville, entered the evening as the track's 270cc Micro-Sprint point leader. Hartman made sure that second-place points man Ross Perchak did not make things interesting as Richie jumped out from his pole starting position to lead every lap, winning his second feature of the season and, in the process, clinching the track championship.

Perchak tried to stay with Hartman in the early stages of the 20-lapper, but the RTS Chassis House Car driven by Hartman was just too strong. Hartman pulled out to a comfortable advantage as Perchak gave up second to Darin Bartholomew on the seventh revolution.

Ryan Smith slipped past Perchak for third on the same lap, setting up a 13-lap duel for the runner-up slot with Bartholomew. On the final lap, Smith managed to dive under Bartholomew in turns one and two, then accelerated into second as they blasted down the backchute.

Hartman cruised to the checkered flag over Smith, who forced Bartholomew to be satisfied with third. Perchak and Brad Tabertshofer rounded out the top five finishers.

The NAPA of Kutztown and Boyertown Halfway Leader Bonus went to Hartman.

With 37 of the Winged 270cc Micros in the pit area, qualifying heats were taken by Smith, Jessica Miller, and Bartholomew. The consolation race was won by Josh Weller.

Richie Hartman's second victory of the year propelled him to the point title, as he beat Perchak by 77 points.

Former Xcel 600 Modified Tour Champion Eric Whitby notched his first Xcel Sportsman triumph on Wednesday.

Whitby, who resides in Emmaus, led all the way to pick up the win and the cash from NAPA for being the leader at halfway.

Scott Washburn and Ryan Kunkle moved into second and third with fifteen to go, then battled with one another for the runner-up position as Whitby darted away to lead by a healthy margin.

Kunkle eventually secured second from Washburn, but had no chance to run down the leader until the yellow flag appeared with three laps remaining.

Whitby had enough left in his No. 12e to power away from Kunkle on the final restart. Whitby flew under the black-and-white silks to win by six-tenths of a second over Kunkle, who clinched the Xcel Sportsman Modified point championship with his runner-up effort.

Washburn, Aaron Bowes, and Ryan Suchon finished in positions three through five.

Heats for the 21 Xcel Sportsman Mods were claimed by Bowes, Richie Hitzler, and Doug Borger.

Kunkle, from nearby Fleetwood, Pa., captured the crown by 50 points over three-time feature winner Matt Carman. Trailing Kunkle by just 16 tallies when the evening began, Carman was involved in an early tangle, then rebounded to finish ninth.

The All Star Slingshots will wrap up their 2011 point chase on Tuesday, August 16, during the first night of the Fair Week Nationals presented by UGI HVAC and RTS Chassis. Gary Hieber leads Brett Bieber in a close contest as the Slingers head into their final race of the year at Kutztown.

All of the Fair Week events will begin with warm-ups at 6:30 and racing at 7 p.m.
