VONDOHREN AND KLINE IN VICTORY LANE AT GRANDVIEW

Bechtelsville, PA June 5, 2011 . . . In a down to the checkered flag battle Craig VonDohren was able to win his first feature race of the season at Grandview Speedway when he won the Jesse Baro Trucking 30-lap NASCAR 358 Modified feature on Saturday night. Ron Kline was able to grab his second Late Model feature race victory of the season.
Glenn Owens got the early lead in the Modified feature with Brad Missimer moving in front on the third circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay track. At nine laps a multi car tangle between three and four brought out the caution with point leader Duane Howard going to the pits. At the same time fan favorite Jeff Strunk went to the pits with a rear tire problem. Both were able to return and start at the rear of the field.
On the restart Missimer continued to set the pace and held the top spot until he and challenger VonDohren were battling off the fourth turn of the 29th lap. VonDohren edged in front and the Boyertown racer was able to lead the final lap to gain the $2500 first place money. Second spot went to Missimer followed by Jack Swain, Gary Hager and Don Norris Jr.
The 20-lap feature for Late Models was all about Ron Kline as the Salford, PA racer took the lead on the third lap and led the rest of the race to gain his second win of the season. Chuck Schutz finished second followed by Danny Snyder, John Favinger and Kory Fleming.
Saturday night action at Grandview will include the URC sprint cars along with the 358 Modifieds. Russell Newberry of TV’s Deadliest Catch will be appearing and Blue Bell’s Kirsten Sowers will sing the National Anthem. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

VONDOHREN AND KLINE WIN NASCAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA June 5, 2011 . . . Brad Missimer was probably figuring how he was going to spend the $2,500 first place money as he led the field into turn four on the 29th circuit of the 30-lap Jesse Baro Trucking NASCAR Whelen 358 Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. However Missimer had six time champion Craig VonDohren looking to steal his pay check and as the duo came off the fourth turn, with one lap to go, VonDohren put his Felty Farms No. 1c in front and set the pace the rest of the way to get his first Grandview feature win of the season and saved young Missimer a trip to the bank.
In the 20-lap feature for Late Models Ron Kline was able to wheel his Harleysville Mattress/V&M Towing No. 3 to his second feature win of the season.
“I thought I had more time,” said VonDohren in victory lane. “I thought there was still three or four laps left. I just stayed close to him (Missimer) hoping he would bobble and he did. I screwed up a few times myself.”
Missimer, in a display of great sportsmanship, came to victory lane to congratulate the winner.
Glenn Owens was quick to lead the 31 starters in the 38 Modified feature through the first lap and set the pace until the third lap when Brad Missimer was able to charge to the front in the fourth turn. At nine laps a multicar accident sent a number of racers to the pits including point leader Duane Howard and fan favorite Jeff Strunk. Both were able to return and restart at the rear of the field.
On the restart Missimer put his Don Schaefer No. 327 in front and was able to hold off challenges from Cliff Quinn and VonDohren. In the closing laps, VonDohren, coming from 15th starting spot, was closing in on the leader and in the fourth turn of the 29th circuit the six time champion was able to scoot by Missimer and grab the top spot. Once in front the Boyertown racer set the pace for the final lap with Missimer (Bechtelsville) finishing a strong second. Grandview rookie Jack Swain (Pilesgrove, NJ) got his best finish of the season with a third. Gary Hager (Stewartsville, NJ) finished fourth followed by Don Norris Jr. (Douglassville).
Kory Fleming got to enjoy leading the 20-lap Late Model feature for the first couple laps before Ron Kline charged by on the third circuit and led the rest of the feature race. In the closing laps point leader Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) put some pressure on the leader but just ran out of laps and settled for second. Danny Snyder (Green Lane) grabbed third followed by young Johnny Favinger (Birdsboro) and Kory Fleming (Milford, NJ).
Qualifying heat races for the Late Models, each 8 laps, were won by Kory Fleming and Mike Kellner. The qualifying races for the 358 Modifieds, each 12 laps, saw victories going to Ron Seltman, Brad Missimer, Jeremy Banos and Jon Kellner Jr. Wins in the 10-lap consolation races for the 358 Modifieds were earned by Jordan Umbenhauer and previous week feature winner Mike Gular.
A note of interest according the lap times Kory Fleming turned the fastest lap in the Late Model feature at 15.191 seconds at a speed of 78.993 mph. Craig VonDohren turned the fastest lap in the Modified feature at 15.413 seconds with a speed of 77.856 mph.

The Cargo Trailer Sales gift certificates went to 10th place feature finishers Doug Walton in the Late Model feature and Shawn Reimert in the 358 Modified main event.
The Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader awards in each feature were presented to Ron Kline in the Late Models and Brad Missimer in the 358 Modifieds.
The Salvage Transport Late Model Hard Charger award was earned by Chuck Schutz after he gained 10 spots in the feature going from 12th to second while Mike Kramer/Sponsors of Bobby Gunther Walsh Modified Hard Charger Award went to Glenn Strunk, for the second week in a row, gaining 19 positions after starting 26th and finishing 7th.
Dirk Rimrott won the Christman Meat Markets free pit pass award.
One of the most popular events of the season happens on Saturday, June 11th at 7:30 p.m. when the URC sprint cars will be in action along with the NASCAR 358 Modifieds. Russell Newberry of TV’s Deadliest Catch will be there to meet fans and sign autographs all part of BPG Racing/Chad Sinon Motorsports Night. Blue Bell, PA’s Kirsten Sowers will sing the National Anthem. Adult admission is $20, youngsters 6 thru 11 pay just $5 and kids under 6 are admitted FREE.
