JJ GRASSO AND AMERICAN RACER WIN BLACK ROCK SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY NIGHT
JJ Grasso riding on his American Racer tires was the class of the field winning the twenty-lap Sprint Championship Saturday night at the Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY. Grasso started the night by winning his heat race and after starting on the pole, led most of the twenty-five lap feature. Justin Barger wrestled the lead away from Grasso on lap eleven but by lap fifteen, Grasso had his BK Leasing Palladino Motorsports #99 at the front of the pack. For Grasso, the 2009 URC Champion, it was his first win of the season and his seventeenth career Rislone URC Sprint Series career win on Fred's Trailer Parts Night.
The Black Rock Sprint Championship attracted a field of thirty-four sprints with URC adding thirteen cars to the field as the Patriots drew eleven and the Empire Super Sprints brought ten cars to the event. Heat race winners were Jeff Cook, Josh Weller, Becca Anderson and JJ Grasso. Don Adamezyk was the winner of the DASH as Steve Whary won the "B" Main.
A field of twenty-seven sprint cars started the twenty-five lap feature with JJ Grasso and Josh Weller making up the front row. At the drop of the green flag, Grasso was quick to establish himself as the man to beat. As the field completed lap two, the caution was displayed for Alain Bergeron who stopped in turn three as Curt Michael spun on the backstretch..
The restart saw Grasso again set the pace with Weller and Dylan Swienik in the chase with a determined Justin Barger on his way to the front. On lap nine, the yellow was displayed for Swienik after he tangled with Troy Betts. On the restart, Steve Whary tangled with another car and flipped in turn four. Whary walked away uninjured but out of the race.
With the green flag waiving, Grasso led the tenth lap with Justin Barger taking the lead on lap eleven. Grasso quickly went to work reeling in the leader and on lap fifteen, he went back into the top spot. Barger and Weller followed to make-up the top three with Randy West and Chuck Hebing now moving into the picture.
The final caution of the race was displayed on lap twenty-one for Vern Wasson and now the shoot out was set for the final four laps.
When green flag racing resumed, Grasso was still the man to beat as Barger took his final run at the leader. Weller followed in third with Randy West and Becca Anderson making up the top five. Grasso had no challenges in the final laps and took the win, worth $2,500. Barger finished a strong second with Josh Weller third, Randy West fourth and on the final lap, Jared Zimbardi passed Becca Anderson for fifth.
