Delaware's Matt Jester Adds First State Representation to Big Diamond Speedway 'Anthracite Assault' Race of Champions Visit Wednesday, June 22; Best of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania & Now Delaware Expected

MINERSVILLE, PA - What do race fans have to look forward to when the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour invades Big Diamond Speedway on Wednesday, June 22?

The best and most talented dirt Modified racers from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and yes, now, even Delaware.

Delaware International Speedway standout Matt Jester of Milford, Del., was among the first entries filed for the 'Anthracite Assault' RoC Dirt Modified Tour return to Coal Country. The 'Anthracite Assault' will feature a head-to-head big-block/small-block battle at the Schuylkill County facility.  "Mining Modified Excitement" is the theme of this event, a BD Motorsports Media promotion in conjunction with Race of Champions Motorsports and Big Diamond owners Fritz and Krista Roehrig.

Big-blocks are eligible to compete at Big Diamond only once this season: in the 60-lap 'Anthracite Assault' RoC invasion. Race of Champions rules, which grant a weight break for engines under 361 c.i., ensure level competition for 358-Modifieds racing against their more powerful big-block counterparts. The top-finishing small-block earns a $500 bonus.

Unique to the 'Anthracite Assault' at Big D: Modified racers will be permitted to run sail panels.

Jester, 26, is a leading contender in the First State Modified ranks, coming off a six-win 2010 season at Delaware International Speedway, where he placed second in points to legendary Kenny Brightbill. Jester owns 15 career big-block Modified victories at Charlie Cathell's half-mile Delaware International Speedway oval. The popular driver known as 'the Joker' will make his first-ever appearance at Big D for the 'Anthracite Assault' event.

"I haven't seen the place," admitted Jester, who will strap into his second Clearview Farms-backed No. 62 Bicknell - outfitted with a standard big-block engine - for the midweek special. "I've been on YouTube watching the highlights every week trying to observe as much as I can before I get there.

"As a competitor you always want to be part of big events like this. I'm looking forward to it."

Jester will have plenty of competition on race day if RoC history at Big Diamond is any indication.

The RoC Dart Dirt Modified Tour has visited Big Diamond on four occasions. The last event was contested on July 25, 2006, a race won by Modified superstar Alan Johnson of Middlesex, N.Y. Johnson went on to win the RoC championship for car owner Jeff Rudalavage that season.

Legendary Billy Pauch Sr. of Frenchtown, N.J., owns two RoC-sanctioned victories at Big Diamond: June 6, 2006 and Aug. 9, 2005. Both victories for 'the Kid' came at the wheel of Norm Hansell's famed No. 357.

The first RoC event at Diamond, run June 7, 2005 went to Jeff Strunk, then driving the Chad Sinon-owned No. 88.

The liberal rules package put together by RoC officials should guarantee a diverse field for the 'Anthracite Assault' at Big D. Big- or small-block power is permitted, with a weight break granted to teams under 361 c.i. Teams may use gasoline or methanol. There will be a fuel stop if necessary. Sail panels (two, even, maximum 65 inches high) are be permitted for the event. American Racer tire compounds will be announced in advance of the race.

Joining the Modifieds on the program will be RoC Dart Dirt Sportsman in a 30-lap main event. The RoC Sportsman have been featured on four occasions at Big D with past victories going to Kyle Weiss and Mike Lyons (2006) and Arnie Slade and Craig Whitmoyer (2005). Doug Borger's XCel 600 Modifieds complete the tripleheader program in a 20-lap feature.
