Racy Track Surface Set to Greet Big Diamond Speedway Competitors This Friday, May 20; 410 Sprint Cars Return on Memorial Day (May 30) in Keystone Cup Open Wheel Doubleheader With ARDC Midgets

MINERSVILLE, PA - One week after a multi-groove track surface produced one of the most exciting feature events for The Station House 358-Modifieds in recent memory, Big Diamond Speedway returns to action this Friday night (May 20). Craig Von Dohren (Boyertown, Pa.) edged Billy Pauch Jr. (Frenchtown, N.J.) for his 70th career Big Diamond victory in a small-block headliner that brought the crowd to its feet on May 13.

The Station House 358-Modifieds (qualifying and 25-lap feature), U.S.S. Achey Sportsman (qualifying and 20-lap feature) and Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunners (qualifying and 20-lap feature) are set for competition at the Schuylkill County oval. This Friday, residents of Schuylkill Haven, Friedensburg, Cressona and New Philadelphia will be admitted for $10 with proof of address through Big Diamond's Community Night program.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7:55 p.m. and the first heat at 8:15 p.m. All Friday shows feature an 8:15 p.m. start time this year.  Grandstand admission is $13 (Adults), $10 (Seniors & Military), $5 (Kids 6-12) and FREE for those five years of age and under. Pit admission for members is $25 and $35 for non-members.

After four weeks of competition, there have been no repeat winners in any of Big Diamond's three divisions. Six-time champion Jeff Strunk of Bechtelsville, Pa., has taken over the 358-Modified championship lead. Strunk, driving for Norm Hansell, has finished no worse than sixth at Big D this season. Consistent Kevin Beach Jr. of Llewellyn, Pa. (Sportsman) and defending champion Elvin Brennan III (Roadrunner) lead their respective divisions.

On May 27, the first Michael Weinert Racing Drive for Hunger is set for the speedway. Fans are asked to bring a canned good to the speedway to help "drive away hunger" for those in need. A receptacle will be set up at the main gate. Weinert, the 16-year-old Tamaqua, Pa., 358-Mod racer and his team are behind the effort. Big Wheel races on the frontstretch are also planned for the May 27 show. The age brackets are 2-4 and 5-7. Winners will receive trophies and second- and third-place finishers will take home Burger King gift certificates. On the track, the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners will do battle.

Looking ahead to Memorial Day Monday (May 30), the powerful winged 410 Sprint Cars return to Big Diamond as part of the Keystone Cup. The popular wingless ARDC Midgets complete the holiday open-wheel doubleheader in their first appearance of 2011 with a 7 p.m. start time in place. The 410 Sprint Cars will run 30 laps for a $5,000 winner's share.

A highlight event at Big D this season is set for Wednesday, June 22 with the 'Anthracite Assault' Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour invades Coal Country for the first time since 2006 in a BD Motorsports Media/Race of Champions Motorsports production. The big-block/small-block Modifieds run 60 laps with a minimum $4,000 posted to the winner in addition to $500 for the highest-finishing small-block. For further information, visit www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com or www.rocdirt.com.

VIP rooms are available for small groups to rent at an affordable rate in 2011. Three VIP rooms are available for rent at the speedway - all climate-controlled with heating and air conditioning and out of the elements. The VIP rooms provide the "best seats in the house" overlooking the action on the speedway.

VIP room rental cost is $350 per night (there could be a price increase for special events). Rentals include eight general admission passes, beverages, snacks, eight hot dogs and eight hamburgers.  Guests are permitted to bring alcohol into VIP rooms. Guest maximum capacity is recommended at 10, but larger parties can be accommodated.  A $50 charge could be assessed if extensive cleanup is required.
