With throngs of race enthusiasts turning out and every inch of available space filled with race cars, the return of the Big Diamond Speedway Race Car Show to the Fairlane Village Mall exceeded all expectations. T102 (101.9 WAVT Pottsville) playing the 'Best Songs on the Radio' backed the weeklong event which concluded on Saturday. The show had not been held at the mall in several years. Competitors from Big Diamond's The Station House 358-Modifieds, U.S.S. Achey Sportsman and Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunners were well represented in addition to Enduro, Slingshot and XCel 600 Modified vehicles.

With Center Court overflowing with onlookers, Michael Weinert was recognized Friday night as the Best of Show recipient for his Plant Food Company blue and white No. 18 358-Modified. Weinert, a 15-year-old from Tamaqua, Pa., was the 2010 Big Diamond Speedway Rookie of the Year in the small-block Modified ranks. He returns to Big D for a full season in search of a breakthrough victory. Weinert received a trophy courtesy of event organizer BD Motorsports Media.

Big Diamond Speedway sponsored the divisional awards. Best in class honors went to Kevin Albert Jr. (358-Modified No. 3A), Kenny Eckert Jr. (Sportsman No. 520), Ed Kuperavage (Roadrunner No. 23) and Chuck Detweiler (Enduro No. 70).

Kevin Albert Jr. and crew chief Jason Hernley won the Two-Man Tire Changing competition with a time of 48.7 seconds. Five teams of two participated in the contest. All participants received a free grandstand pass to a 2011 event at Big Diamond. The winners each earned two VIP passes good for pit or grandstand admission at a 2011 event.
