SHORT STORY

HOWARD AND MIKE KELLNER WIN FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 29, 2010 . . . Duane Howard put on a driving exhibition at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night that had him winning his fourth NASCAR 358 Modified feature race in a row, his seventh feature win of the season, wrapping up the NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modified title and he did it by winning the 30-lap RCN-TV NASCAR 358 Modified feature lapping all but the top four finishers. Mike Kellner won the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature giving him five wins for the season.

Bobby Gunther Walsh led the 27 car field to the green and set the pace on the first lap of the NASCAR 358 Modified feature. Mike Laise took the top spot on the second lap and it was Kyle Follweiler in front with four laps complete. The story of the night though was the charge from 16th starting spot to first in seven laps by Duane Howard and then proceeding to run away from the field having a half lap lead on the field at the finish.

Mike Gular tried to make a race of it but had to settle for a distant second followed by Kyle Follweiler, Mike Laise and Doug Manmiller.

In the 20-lap feature for Late Models Wayne Pfeil set the early pace with Danny Snyder going to the front on the fourth lap. At the 8th circuit Mike Kellner, coming from seventh starting spot, charged to the front and led the rest of race to earn the win. Danny Snyder gained a close second followed by Chuck Schutz, Ron Kline and Wayne Pfeil.

Just two more Saturday night point events remain for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models and the Sidewinder sprints will be part of the September 4th show. Adult tickets for that event will be priced at $14. Advance ticket sales for the BPG Racing Freedom 76 will go on sale. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. The final point race of the season for the 358 Modifieds and Late Models takes place on Saturday, September 11 and is sponsored by Green Lane Wm. Penn/Four Star Lettering. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

FULL RACE RESULTS STORY

HOWARD DOMINATES IN 358 MODIFIEDS, KELLNER WINS IN LATE MODELS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 29, 2010 . . . In what may have been the most dominating performance seen in years at Grandview Speedway, point leader Duane Howard was able to lap all but the top four finishers in winning the 30-lap RCN-TV Night NASCAR 358 Modified feature on Saturday night. Mike Kellner brought his Power Washers No. 57 home first in the 20-lap Late Model feature for his fifth feature win of the season.

In victory lane Howard, now the winner of seven features this season at Grandview and the last four in a row, told the crowd, “It is a darn amazing car. It is so easy to drive. Troyer (the car builder) gave us a good car and Paul (Main Engines) gave us a great motor.” At the finish Howard and his BPG Racing No. 4 was at least one half lap in front of the field. The victory wrapped up the NASCAR Whelen 358 Modified track championship for Howard and his car owner Chad Sinon.

Veteran racer Bobby Gunther Walsh put his Altronics sponsored No. 50 in front of the 27 car starting field and led the first lap of the NASCAR 358 Modified feature. The second lap, which included a couple of multi car accidents, was topped by young Mike Laise. At the four lap marker Kyle Follweiler was able to take the top spot but at the seventh circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay oval Duane Howard, coming from 16th starting spot, charged to the front. Howard had been able to avoid several accidents on the way to the front. Once in front the Oley racer made it look very easy as he pulled away from the entire field.

Mike Gular tried to make a race of it but was never close to the leader during the remaining laps. The East Greenville racer followed Howard to a second place finish, one of his best efforts of the season. Also having a strong showing, finishing third, was young Kyle Follweiler (Slatington). Mike Laise (Pottstown) was impressive with his fourth place being the last racer still running on the lead lap with Howard. Doug Manmiller (Shoemakersville), the new 358 Modified champion at Big Diamond Raceway, finished fifth.

Howard’s dominating effort should move him closer to a possible top three finish in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Championship and gives him a good chance at finishing well in the final American Racer Cup Modified standings.

Wayne Pfeil went to the front at the drop of the green for the 24-car starting field in the 20-lap Late Model feature. Pfeil enjoyed the top spot for three laps before Danny Snyder charged to the front. Snyder’s view from the top was short lived as Mike Kellner took the led on the 8th lap and set the pace for the balance of the feature race. The Lansdale racer had just a slim lead over Danny Snyder (Green Lane) at the finish. Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) came home third followed by Ron Kline (Salford) and Wayne Pfeil (Mohnton).

Despite five feature wins Kellner is just fifth in the current Late Model point standings with defending champion Brian Shuey in front of the standings looking for his second straight title.

Qualifying heat races for the NASCAR Late Models, 8 laps each, were won by Ron Kline, Mike Kellner and Randy Stoudt. In the NASCAR 358 Modifieds the 12 lap qualifying races were won by Ryan Grim, Jarrod Miller, Troy Wink and Kyle Follweiler. The two 10-lap consolation races for the 358 Modifieds went to Craig VonDohren and John Willman.

Cargo Trailer Sales $50 gift certificates were earned by D.D.Keely for finishing tenth in the Late Model feature and Kevin Albert Jr. for getting tenth in the 358 Modified feature. Dan’s Del Halfway Awards were earned by Mike Kellner in the Late Model feature and Duane Howard in the NASCAR 358 Modified feature.

With just two point races remaining there is a lot of attention centered on the September 4th tripleheader that will feature the NASCAR 358 Modifieds along with the Late Models and Sidewinder sprints. Adult tickets will be priced at $14. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. The final point races of the 2010 season will be sponsored by Green Lane Wm. Penn/Four Star Lettering on Saturday, September 11th. The NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models doubleheader will start at 7:30 p.m.

Coming on Saturday, September 18th is the biggest event of the season when the BPG Racing Freedom 76 for 358 Modifieds is presented. Opportunities for marketing through motorsports during the Freedom 76, including lap and heat sponsorships, program book advertising, and more is available from Ernie Saxton Communications at 215.752.7797.
