SHORT STORY
DUANE HOWARD AND MIKE KELLNER EACH GET THEIR FOURTH WIN OF THE SEASON AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 8, 2010 . . . It wasn’t easy but Duane Howard was able to earn his fourth NASCAR 358 Modified feature win of the season as he won the 30-lap Mavericks Motorcycle Club sponsored feature Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. Mike Kellner drove to his fourth 20-lap Late Model feature win also.
Howard almost lost the victory to two youngsters in the final laps of the Modified feature race but he was able to charge back to the front after dropping to third with just a handful of laps to go. At the finish Howard, the NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modified point leader was able to take the win finishing ahead of Doug Manmiller, Brad Missimer, Ryan Godown and Don Norris Jr.
The 20-lap Late Model feature had Danny Snyder leading in the early laps as Mike Kellner was working his way from seventh starting spot. At the eight lap mark Kellner was able to charge to the front and set the pace for the balance of the race and grab the victory. Second spot was earned by Randy Stoudt who was closing on the leader at the finish. Ron Kline was third followed by Brian Shuey and Nate Christman.
One of the richest NASCAR 358 Modified events of the season is set for Saturday, August 14th at 7:30 p.m. when the annual Forrest Rogers Memorial, run in memory of the founder of Grandview Speedway, a 50-lapper paying $10,000 to win is presented. Duane Howard, the current 358 Modified point leader, will be looking for his first win in this classic event. The Late Models will also be part of the night’s racing events.

FULL RACE RESULTS STORY
HOWARD WINS IN NASCAR 358 MODIFIEDS WHILE MIKE KELLNER IS TOPS IN LATE MODELS AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 8, 2010 . . . Almost snatching defeat from the jaws of victory Duane Howard was able to wheel the Chad Sinon owned BPG Racing No. 4 to victory in the 30-lap Mavericks Motorcycle Club NASCAR 358 Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. The win was the fourth of the season at the Berks County clay oval for the Oley, PA racer who is leading in the chase for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modified track championship. In the 20-lap feature for Late Models Lansdale’s Mike Kellner was able to put his Power Washers/Watash Speed Equipment No. 57 in victory lane for the fourth time this season.
Troy Wink charged to the front of the 27 car starting field with Brad Missimer a close second. The two staged a five lap battle for the top spot before Missimer was able to grab the top spot on the back straightway of the 6th circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay oval.
Once in front Missimer, celebrating his 24th birthday, looked as if he could hold on to the front spot and get his second win of the season. However a mid-race caution closed the field up on the leader and put point leader Duane Howard right alongside of him on the restart.
Howard was able to take control on the 16th circuit with Missimer close behind.
With 23 laps completed Howard had a commanding lead over Missimer with Kyle Follweiler, Doug Manmiller and Ryan Godown running in the top five.
Addison Meitzler brought out the caution with a spin on the back straightaway during the 24th lap and on the restart Howard spun the rear wheels and both Missimer and Follweiler were able to get by him.
Howard was able to get back by Missimer after a couple of laps and was working on Follweiler when the young racer clipped a infield marker tire and spun giving the lead back to Howard.
A caution on the 29th lap closed the field up on Howard but on the restart he was able to pull away from second place Doug Manmiller to grab his fourth win of the season.
Manmiller (Shoemakersville) held on to second followed by Brad Missimer (Bechtelsville), Ryan Godown (Ringoes, NJ) and Don Norris Jr. (Birdsboro).
In victory lane Howard said, “The youngsters (Missimer and Follweiler) gave me a hell of a race. I almost gave the win away by spinning the tires on that restart.”
The 20-lap Late Model feature saw John Favinger lead the field to the green flag but Danny Snyder quickly took over as the leader. On the second circuit Chuck Schutz, a crowd favorite, came to a stop in turn one bringing out the caution done for the night. Danny Snyder resumed the lead on the restart but Mike Kellner, coming from seventh starting spot, was on the move. At the eight lap mark Kellner went to the front and that is where he stayed for the balance of the main event. Early leader Snyder dropped out at the 12 lap marker. Second spot went to Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) followed by Ron Kline (Salford), Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville) and Nate Christman (Oley).
“I was just glad to have the car finish,” said Kellner in victory lane. “We have had a lot of bad luck. I just didn’t want to mess up. I just wanted to finish.”
The four 12-lap qualifying heat races for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds were won by Mike Gular, Troy Wink, Jeff Strunk and Brad Missimer. The 10-lap consolation victories went to Terry Meitzler and Billy Pauch Jr. Late Model qualifiers, eight laps each, were won by Randall Paxton,, Mike Kellner and Ron Kline.
The entire night of racing, sponsored by the Mavericks Motorcycle Club, was run off in two hours and 15 minutes.
The Cargo Trailer Sales $50 gift certificates went to 10th place finishers John Willman in the Modifieds and T.J. Mayberry in the Late Models. The Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader Awards were earned by Brad Missimer in the Modifieds and Mike Kellner in the Late Models.
Coming up on Saturday, August 14th at 7:30 p.m. will be the annual Forrest Rogers Memorial Classic, run in memory of the Grandview Speedway founder, for NASCAR 358 Modifieds. The race pays $10,000 to win. NASCAR 358 Modified point leader Duane Howard will be looking for his first win in this classic event. In addition the Late Models will be in action.
Then on Wednesday, August 18th, 7:30p.m. the Thunder on the Hill Series, co-promoted by Bob Miller and Bruce Rogers, offers the World of Outlaws Late Models, 358 Modifieds and a special Old Timers race.
