NEWS FROM THE SUPER SUMMER SERIES - No B.S. 'No Politics. Real Racing

Late Model Challenge and Crate Sportsman Special Join RoC Dart Dirt Modifieds Tuesday, Aug. 10 At Penn Can Speedway 'Hot Summer Night' Special Program

SUSQUEHANNA, PA - Late Models and Crate Sportsman have the opportunity to compete for extra cash Tuesday night, Aug. 10 at Penn Can Speedway during the anticipated 'Hot Summer Night' program at the Susquehanna County oval.

Of course, the headliner of the evening will be the 'Hot Summer Night' Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour 60-lap event for big-block/small-block Modifieds offering up to $5,000 for the winner. The event is the second round of the Plant Food Company Inc.-Reading Plastic Fabricators-G&G Used Auto Parts two-race Super Summer Series co-promoted by Brett Deyo and Penn Can Speedway's management team of Reed Miller and Al Wilcox. The first Super Summer Series race was contested on June 8.

Puzo's Collision of Montrose, Pa., presents the Late Model Challenge, a $1,000-to-win, 25-lap event for Super, Limited and 358 Late Model competitors. Late Models from all tracks across the Northeast are welcome to compete in the event.

"We're hoping for a nice cross-section of Late Models," said co-promoter Brett Deyo. "Penn Can is a track where a number of different engine combinations are able to run together and be competitive. We are looking forward to some diversity in the field for the Late Model Challenge."

Rules have been established to balance the various engine combinations for the Late Model Challenge. Complete specs are posted on the web at www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com. Drivers will draw for heat-race starting positions with a redraw in place for the feature.

Notable Late Model rules for Aug. 10 include:

*Minimum weight with driver after the feature event: 2,250 lbs. Track scales are the only acceptable weights.

*Aluminum Engine Cars: Must add 60 lbs of ballast weight to car in front of the motor plate. Ballast will be checked for proper weight.

*Cars may use any racing fuel or methanol.

*Spoilers:

360 cubic inches or less: Maximum 10 inches

361 cubic inches or more: Maximum 8 inches

*Tires:

Fronts: Open brands - Must be the equivalent to American Racer SD 33 or harder

Rears: Open brands - Right rear is a maximum 92 x 11 DTW, must be equivalent or harder than American Racer SD 38 compound; Left rear must be equivalent or harder than American Racer SD 33

Similar rules have been utilized for a series of events this season at Penn Can with great success, allowing cars from 358 Late Model tracks such as Grandview (Pa.) Speedway to run with Super Late Model racers. Penn Can's size and layout will not provide an advantage to cars with big horsepower, allowing this type of event to take place.

Crate Sportsman drivers have the opportunity to compete for a $750 top prize in a 25-lap feature event. The event is open to all GM 602 Crate Sportsman competitors. Any Crate Sportsman track tire, Hoosier or American Racer, will be permitted. Drivers running aluminum wheels must weigh 2,450 lbs. Drivers using steel wheels must weigh 2.375 lbs.

Drivers will draw for heat-race starting positions with a redraw in place for the feature.

New York racer Anthony Perrego opened the Penn Can season with a Crate Sportsman victory in the 'Spring 125' in April and plans to return for the 'Hot Summer Night' event.

To benefit race teams, pit licenses from any track or sanctioning body will be recognized at the pit gate for a $5 discount off pit area admission. To be eligible for the discount, the license must be presented at the pit pass window.

A rain date of Wednesday, Aug. 11 is in place for the event.
