SHORT STORY -
VONDOHREN AND SCHUTZ SHARE THE WIN HONORS ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA July 4, 2010 . . . Former Late Model champion Chuck Schutz was able to wheel the Jesse Baro Trucking/BPG Racing No. 1 to victory in the Curt J. High & Associates Firecracker 40 Late Model race earning him $5,000 which was the largest first place check ever offered for the Late Models at Grandview Speedway. In the 30-lap feature for the NASCAR Whelen 358 Modifieds on Saturday night Craig VonDohren was able to earn his sixth win of the season.
Schutz was able to take the lead from early leader John Favinger in the 40-lapper for Late Models on the 11th lap and lead the rest of the way to pick up the richest win of his career. Ron Kline was closing at the finish but had to settle for second. Last week’s feature winner Randy Stoudt, coming from 18th starting spot, grabbed third followed by defending track champion Brian Shuey and Wayne Pfeil Jr.
The 30-lapper for 358 Modifieds had Jason Smythe in front early but VonDohren was able to charge to the front on the 11th circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay oval and set the pace for the balance of the race to pick up the $2,200 first place money. Point leader Duane Howard was closing at the finish to grab second. Jason Smythe had one of his best efforts of the season to gain a third place finish followed by past champion Ray Swinehart and eight time track champion Jeff Strunk.
Fans were also treated to an exciting fireworks display in honor of the Fourth of July Holiday.
NASCAR Whelen 358 Modifieds and Late Models are in action on Saturday, July 10th as part of 3 Starz Landscaping Night. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

FULL RACE RESULTS STORY
SCHHUTZ WINS HISTORY MAKING LATE MODEL RACE, VONDOHREN CONTINUES TO DOMINATE NASCAR MODIFIEDS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA July 4, 2010 . . . History was made at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night when Chuck Schutz drove the Jesse Baro Trucking/BPG Racing entry to victory in the Curt J. High & Associates Firecracker 40 Late Model race. The win earned Schutz, now the new point leader in the chase for the Late Model title, $5,000 the biggest payoff in track history for the Saturday night winner in that division. In the NASCAR 358 Modifieds Craig VonDohren was renamed “The Dominator” as he drove the Felty Farms/Kauffman’s Bar-B-Que Chicken No. 1C to victory in the 30 lap feature for his sixth Saturday feature win of the season and his 10th overall for the season.
“That is awesome,” said Schutz in victory lane. “I just prayed that I would not get a flat tire or something like that. I wanted to thank C.J. High (the sponsor). I just want to thank you. I am just happy to win the Firecracker 40 that the Rogers family puts on. The money is just a bonus.”
John Favinger set the pace for the 28-car starting field in the Firecracker 40 and held the top spot until the fourth lap when Mike Kellner took command on a caution restart. With seven laps in the record book and Kellner holding a comfortable lead mechanical problems put the leader out of the race giving the top spot back to Favinger.
A caution allowed Chuck Schutz to close up on Favinger and on the 11th lap the Pottstown racer was able to take the lead and set the pace for the balance of the 40-lap event. Brian Shuey and Ron Kline each made a charge for first but fell short. Kline (Salford) came from 15th starting spot to finish second followed by Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) coming from 18th. Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville), the point leader going into the night and now in second spot, finished fourth while Wayne Pfeil Jr. (Mohnton) had a strong fifth place finish.
After a two car tangle as the 28-car starting field for the Modified feature charged to the green flag brought about a complete restart, Troy Wink set the early pace with Jason Smythe taking control on the fourth circuit. Smythe was able to hold the top spot until the 11th lap when Craig VonDohren, coming from 17th starting spot, was able to go to front.
At 16 laps Smythe was battling Duane Howard, who had come from 16th starting spot, to hold on to his second spot and that allowed VonDohren to pull away from the field.
A red flag for a multi-car accident on the 21st lap gave Howard a chance to challenge VonDohren for the lead but Howard was pushed out of the groove by another competitor and spent a couple of laps getting back to second. By that time VonDohren, who calls Boyertown home, was long gone and crossed the finish line with a comfortable lead. Second spot went to Howard (Oley), who continues to lead the NASCAR Whelen 358 Modified track point standings. Jason Smythe (Oley) had his strongest finish of the season with third. Past champion Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville) finished fourth while eight time track champion Jeff Strunk (Bechtelsville), coming from 19th starting spot, gained a fifth place finish.
Qualifying heat races, eight laps each, for the Late Models were won by Bill Henning, Rick Todorow and Randy Stoudt. In the NASCAR 358 Modifieds the qualifying heat victories, 12 laps each, went to Chris Esposito, Ryan Godown, Jon Kellner Jr. and Duane Howard. Consolation races, 10 laps each, were won by Meme DeSantis and Terry Meitzler.
The Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader Award went to Chuck Schutz in the Late Models and Craig VonDohren in the Modifieds. The 10th place finishers in each feature earned gift certificates from Cargo Trailer Sales.
Four lucky youngsters went home with new bicycles thanks to Late Model racer Kory Fleming and his sponsors. The youngsters all took part in a lucky drawing with hundreds of kids taking part.
The NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modifieds and Late Models are in action on Saturday, July 10th starting at 7:30 p.m. The night is sponsored by 3 Starz Landscaping of Hatboro, PA.
