News from the Fairgrounds at Kutztown Speedway

Two Thunderstorms End Kutztown Fairgrounds Program Early On Wednesday Night; Make-Up Feature Dates Scheduled

KUTZTOWN, PA - Heavy rain on two separate occasions cut Wednesday night's Checkered Flag Fan Club event short at the Fairgrounds at Kutztown Speedway.

The first storm arrived at 7:30 p.m., during 270cc Micro-Sprint qualifying and subsided after dousing the one-fifth-mile clay oval. Track crews, led by promoter Kerry Meitzler, had the clay in race condition following a delay of over an hour. However, a second strong storm arrived at 9:30 p.m., ending the night. Management thanks all fans, drivers and crew members for their cooperation during a trying evening.

The visiting Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Pro Series for wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints completed two rounds of heat races. Qualifying winners were Tim Buckwalter, Ryan Smith and Mike Rutherford (Round No. 1) and A.J. Michael, Brett Arndt and Jimmy Robertson (Round No. 2).

HTMA 600cc competitors were paid their full feature payoff based on points earned in the two rounds of qualifying. The purse was totaled and paid back in decreasing increments of five to all 28 scheduled starters of the scheduled 30-lap main event.

Jake Murphy accrued the best heat race point average, followed by Mike Rutherford, Tim Buckwalter, Ryan Smith and Ryan Greth.

For further information, visit the HTMA Pro Series website: www.600proseries.com.

The Kutztown 270cc Micro-Sprint division completed its three heat events with Josh Pepe, Matt McAnally and Darin Bartholomew winning. Twenty-nine 270cc cars took part in the program. The 270cc consolation and 20-lap feature will run on Aug. 4.

The second Slingshot qualifier was on the track when the second rainstorm arrived. The first heat was won by Brett Bieber. The remaining heat and 20-lap feature will be made up next Wednesday, July 28.

The Junior Slingshot division will run its make-up feature Aug. 11.

Racing resumes Wednesday (July 28) with Century 21 Park Road/Chuck's Auto Salvage presenting a full program of 600cc wingless Micro-Sprints, 270cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots and Junior Slingshots plus, the Slingshot make-up feature from the July 21 rained out show.

Gates open weekly at 4 p.m., with practice at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission for 2010 is as follows: Adults -$8; Students (10-17)/Seniors/Kutztown Residents with ID - $5; Kids under 10 - FREE. Pit admission is $20 (no membership required) and car registration is $20.

FAIRGROUNDS FODDER: Management donated $1 from each grandstand ticket sold to benefit young Mark Berkenstock, the popular Green Lane, Pa., driver injured July 17 while racing at Hamlin (Pa.) Speedway. Additionally, a collection was taken in the pit and grandstand areas, while an oversized "Get Well" card circulated the pit area....

Junior Slingshot racer Eddie Strada was rained out twice on Wednesday night! The recent Hamlin winner and crew left South Canaan, Pa., en route to Accord (N.Y.) Speedway only to learn of a cancellation. The team then turned around and drove to Kutztown only to have another event fall to precipitation....

The annual Kutztown Fair Races will close out the Kutztown season Aug. 17-19. 600cc Micro-Sprints and 270cc Micro-Sprints will have a two-day event (Tues.-Wed. Aug. 17-18) with $1,500-to-win, $75-to-start features for both to be run on Wednesday and qualifying on Tuesday. The Slingshots will have their entire program Thursday, with a feature paying $1,200 to the winner and $35 to start. Entry forms will be posted on the Kutztown Fairgrounds Speedway website at http://www.kutztownfairspeedway.com/....
