Jeff Hartman (600cc), Trevor Kobylarz (270cc), Simon Egan (Slingshot) and Dylan Martin (Jr. Slingshot) Beat The Rain Wednesday At Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, PA - Jeff Hartman won convincingly.

Hartman drove to Victory Lane at the Fairgrounds at Kutztown Speedway Wednesday night in the 20-lap wingless 600cc Micro-Sprint feature event. It marked the Delran, N.J., driver's second win of the season at the Berks County clay oval. Hartman had previously won the Season Opener Goldie Meitzler Memorial May 12.

Hartman started outside the front row with his Delran Auto Body No. 026. Former track champion Brett Arndt was on the pole, but succumbed to mechanical woes on the opening circuit.

From that point on, Hartman cruised to the win over Brett Michalski, who started third. Brian Carber wheeled into the top three from eighth and chased Michalski to the finish, with Shane Lewis and Shelby Harper completing the front five.

Luke Thomas was 11th after starting 18th and earned the 600Scene.com Hard Charger Award.

Trevor Kobylarz survived a mid-race scare to win the 20-lap 270cc Micro-Sprint feature. The Birdsboro, Pa., teenager started from the pole and wheeled his Cafe Waldorf No. 05 into the top spot over Tom Schearer at the outset. Kobylarz paused for a moment in lapped traffic exiting the second turn on lap seven. Schearer made a bid to the inside entering turn three. The cars made contact and sent Schearer around.

Kobylarz, whose car was completely sideways, maintained forward momentum and the lead.

Kobylarz, who also races regularly with the touring ARDC Midget group, was never headed from that point on, surviving a lap-19 yellow for his first 270cc win of the season and third of his career. Brad Tabertshofer was second, with Mike Glass in third for their best finishes of the season. Eleventh-starter Jay Hartman and Richie Hartman trailed.

Simon Egan completed a two-for-one pass of Pete Knappenberger and second-running Jan Acker with four circuits remaining to win the 20-lap Slingshot feature. Egan, who started sixth, swept by the lead pair and raced to his first of the year at Kutztown. Acker was second, followed by pole starter Knappenberger, Mike Glass and Travis Bieber.

Dylan Martin led from start-to-finish to win the 20-lap Junior Slingshot feature. After review by officials, T.J. Lilly was placed second, followed by Chris Kurtz, Chris Kurtz, Louden Reimert and Joseph Infante.

Racing resumes next Wednesday (June 23) with wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints, 270cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots and the Young Gun 390s replace the Junior Slingshots as the fourth division on the card.

Heat winners were Shelby Harper and Brett Michalski (600cc); Brad Tabertshofer, Trevor Kobylarz and Mike Glass (270cc); Shannon Smith and Jordan Henn (Slingshot); and Dylan Martin (Junior Slingshot)....

Opening Night winner Ross Perchak was charging toward the front in the 270cc feature when he was collected in the aforementioned lap-seven tangle involving Schearer and Kobylarz. Perchak was towed off, done for the night....
