MEMORIAL NIGHT WILL REMEMBER LATE TRACK PHOTOGRAPHER DON MARKS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA June 18, 2010 . . . For more than 25 years Don Marks gave his heart and soul to auto racing at Grandview Speedway. Most will never realize how important Marks, who passed away in March, 2008, was to the sport. On Saturday, June 26th, Don Marks will be remembered with the second annual Memorial Night, featuring both NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models, at the Berks County clay oval. The night is sponsored by BPG Racing.

“Over the years Don was a major factor in the great publicity the track received in the mainstream media, trade publications and the internet,” said track announcer and PR person Ernie Saxton. “I could call him at anytime, day or night, and he was ready and anxious to do what was needed. And he was a dear friend beside. This race is special to me and to Chad Sinon of BPG Racing.”

Fans and racers wanting to remember Marks can do so by sponsoring a lap in the NASCAR 358 Modified feature or in the Late Model feature. Laps sell for just $10 each. Those who sign up to sponsor a lap by June 19th will have their name listed in the special edition of the track magazine available at the Don Marks Memorial.

Those interested in sponsoring a lap can contact Ernie Saxton at 215.752.7797 or at Esaxton144@aol.com. And at the track laps can be purchased by seeing Marilyn Saxton in the trailer at the front gate.

Fans attending the Don Marks Memorial Night, the green flag falling at 7:30 p.m. for the first event, will see an exciting night of NASCAR 358 Modified and Late Model stock car racing. Modifieds will be lead by Craig VonDohren and Duane Howard, current point leader, who recently finished one-two in the recent DIRT Super Series Traffic Jam 100 at Grandview defeating many of the best dirt track modified racers in the Northeast.

NASCAR’s Paul Schaefer had this to say about racing at Grandview Speedway, “The competition/show at Grandview always left me with my head shaking in disbelief…so many cars, so much talent and a track that demands full focus. I’d leave the place wondering of the drivers ‘How did they do that?’.”

The one-third-mile, banked clay track is located at 43 Passmore Road in Bechtelsville, PA just off route 100, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For race information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at http://www.grandviewspeedway.com/.
