Selinsgrove Icebreaker VIII Postponed‏

SELINSGROVE 2015 ROC TOUR OPENER POSTPONED;
Weather in Coming Weeks & Impact at Selinsgrove & Other Tracks Will Determine New Date

SELINSGROVE , PA…February 28, 2015… The hopes on starting the 2015 Northeast racing season at Selinsgrove Speedway with the annual Race of Champions Dirt Icebreaker VIII on Saturday, March 14, have been dashed as the record cold February has forced the postponement of the event for the Modified and Sportsman stock cars. Selinsgrove Speedway promoter, Charlie Paige, and event promoter and track race director, Joe Kaminski made the call on Saturday morning, February 28.

"With the record-breaking, harsh winter we have had here, and continue to experience, we stuck with the plan, with ‘hope against hope,' to stage our 8th Annual RoC Icebreaker at Selinsgrove on March 14," offered Joe Kaminski of JGK Motorsports. "With the race being just two weeks out, RoC’s Andrew (Harpell) along with Charlie and I agreed to postpone the race. I really appreciate all of our continuing sponsors. I have so much respect for them, our race fans and the race teams that I know it is the right decision to make the call well in advance, rather than inconvenience them and have them traveling unnecessarily.”

The planned Saturday-only format is a change for the annual two-day Selinsgrove RoC Ice Breaker which could make it easier to slot the event into the RoC, Selinsgrove and Northeast racing schedule. And Paige, Kaminski and Harpell are already this weekend discussing possible new dates for the event in 2015!

“Honestly looking at the track right now and the impact of the freezing and even sub-zero temperatures we experienced in February,” shared Charlie Page, “it appears that we are at least three weeks out from now with a possible season opener,… and that assumes we get a break in this weather.”

"We are currently looking at every viable option for the event to be rescheduled, as the Modifieds have been a great show over the years and I believe the Sportsman will be impressive as well,” continued Kaminski. “We do want to get this show in and will need to not only look at our timetable, but also the schedule revisions of other tracks in the Northeast. Tracks to our north will be dealing with the same things we are. The bigger question is where tracks to the south and southeast of Selinsgrove will be with their Openers. If everyone is delayed, we may find an early date. If not we need to look later in the season.”

The excitement and anticipation for the Icebreaker has not diminished with the cold weather.

Charlie Paige announced that Selinsgrove has decided to increase the tow money paid to non-qualifying modified teams to $50 from the $25 of the past and the sportsman will now also receive non-qualifier’s tow money of $25.

Over the past month, two more sponsors, a guaranteed starter’s spot have been added video coverage of the event has been confirmed.

Deb Rahmer of Reid's Tannery and Promotions of Skippack, PA, is awarding driver equipment bags (each a $150 approximate value) to the modified and sportsman feature winners. Gary Shiley, Shiley Fabrications Racing Components and Speed Equipment of Williamstown, PA, is offering $50 discount certificates to all qualifying heat winners in both classes. Vernon, New York’s Utica-Rome Speedway of Bill and Kim Shea and Race Director, John Tiff have offered a guaranteed starting spot in the prestigious "Victoria 200" race to the "Icebreaker" modified winner. And finally Thomas Productions of Geneva, NY, will provide professional video coverage of the entire "Icebreaker" event.

These four are added to the impressive list of returning sponsors for the 2015 Icebreaker already confirmed in December including Lenny Krautheim Auto Sales, Middleburg, PA (former winning driver in both 358 and 410 sprint cars); Keith Sweigart Electric,  Reading, PA; Penske Racing Shocks, Reading, PA; GME Steering Products, New Ringgold, PA; Holiday Inn Express, Selinsgrove, PA; Insinge r Performance Products, Dushore, PA; Reaction Graffix, New Buffalo, PA; Reid's Tannery, Skippack, PA; Selinsgrove (PA) Hotel (Official Icebreaker Party Headquarters) and JGK Motorsports, Mt.
