Kid's Night and Track Championship Night at SSP this Saturday, Sept. 13 (6:00 p.m. Start Time); Next Test & Tune on Wednesday, Sept. 17‏

SSP Track Championships to be Decided on Saturday Night, September 13
Kid’s Night and Figure 8 Racing Final Rescheduled for Saturday Night;
Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune on September 17

Newberrytown, PA (September 9, 2014) – On Saturday night, September 13, racing action returns to the Big Track at SSP with Track Championship Night.  Racing action will include the Late Models Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks Cars, Road Warriors, Mini Vans and PA Sprint Series.  Track champions will be crowned in the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Road Warriors, Mini Vans and PA Sprint Series divisions.  There will also be a special championship awards presentation for the drivers of the Summer Shoot-Out Series at the Outback Track.    The final race for the Figure 8 division has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 13 to decide the track champion.

The wives, girlfriends and mothers of the SSP drivers will also host a Kid’s Night at SSP on Saturday night.  There will be games, face painting, driver “Meet & Greets,” School Bus rides and more before the racing activities start in the front parking lot area.  There will also be lots of prizes (including at least 17 bicycles) and giveaways for the kids.  Festivities will begin at 4:00 p.m. until the racing begins.

The Late Model Track Championship will be decided on Saturday night.  There are two drivers in contention to with the coveted Billet Cup, in honor of the late seven-time track champion Carl Billet.  The J.R. Rodriguez leads Randy Christine Jr. by 84 points.  Rodriguez simply needs to take the green flag for the qualifying heat race to clinch the championship and add his name to the Billet Cup.

The Street Stock Track Championship is much closer as Jasen Geesaman leads Scott Thunberg by 7 points in the season-long battle.  Geesaman is vying for his first SSP Track Championship as Thunberg is looking for his third career SSP title after winning them in 1998 and 2009.  Jimmy Combs and Chris Derr have a long shot for the title and are only able to have a chance if either Geesaman and Thunberg do not take the green flag in the heat and feature event.

The SSP Xtreme Stock Car Track Championship will also come down to the final lap of the feature event as only two points separate Davey Nester and Patrick McClane.  Like Geesaman, Nester is looking for his career first SSP track title as McClane is seeking his third title in the past five seasons (2010 & 2012).  Johnny Palm has an outside chance at the title, should Nester and McClane drastically falter on Saturday night.

Three-time Road Warrior Track Champion (2010, 2011 & 2013) Daryl Sipe, seeks his fourth championship in five season and holds a 60 point lead over 2012 Road Warrior Champion Curt McDade with one race remaining on Saturday.  If Sipe takes the green flag in either the heat or feature race, he will clinch the championship.

The battle for the Mini Van Track Championship is nonexistent if Zakari Kitner takes the green flag in the feature event.  Last season, Kitner and Donny Groff were declared co-champions as they were tied even after all tiebreaker scenarios were exhausted.  Richard Wolfe would be champion if Kitner fails to make the call for the feature.

In the PA Sprint Series, Mike Wagner II holds a 44 point lead over Colby Dice.  Last season, Wagner’s brother, Logan was the 2013 PA Sprint Series SSP Track Champion.

Two points separate Darryl Kump II and Dennis Dorosz for the SSP title in the Figure 8 division.

Brian Gagliardo is the 2014 SSP PENNMAR Vintage Car Track Champion as there are no races for the division remaining this season.

Track Championships will also be determined at a later date for the following: 410 Sprints (November 16); 358 Sprint Cars (November 16); Sidewinder Sprints (October 25); Sportsman Modifieds (October 25); Legends Cars (October 25) and Classic Cars (November 1).

On Saturday the times will change for the fall racing hours. The pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Track Prep laps begin at 5:40 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.

General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $14.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $12.00; Children (10 & under) are free.  Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders.  The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.

The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune for any type of racecar will be on Wednesday, September 17.   The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination).  Each session will be 4-6 laps per session depending on car count.  The grandstands are open free to the public.  Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 4/6 laps each or more if time permits.  The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will not be open.  Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181.  The main concession stand will be open throughout the night.

Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights.  The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas.  All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”
