Sicklerville, NJ (August 23, 2014) – On Bridgeport Speedway’s quarter mile oval, a last lap pass by Lou Cicconi propelled the veteran driver to a victory at Modified Mayhem.
In the 25-lap feature, polesitter Corey Andersen grabbed the early lead. By the fourth circuit, the eighth place starting Cicconi charged into second. On the next tour, Mike Iles moved into contention by passing Don Cogdill for third. After a good multi-lap battle for the top spot, Cicconi motored to the front of the pack with seven laps completed. After several cautions on the tenth and eleventh laps, Iles was the new leader with Steve Davis and Cicconi in pursuit. Cicconi reclaimed second place at the halfway point and began to set his eyes on regaining the lead. With five laps left, the top two of Iles and Cicconi began to approach lap traffic. On the final circuit, Iles was slowed down by additional congestion and Cicconi took advantage of the traffic to grab the winner’s share. “It was long overdue,” stated the racer from Aston, PA about his recent winless streak. The victory was Cicconi’s second Modified win on the quarter mile at Bridgeport Speedway. “I really enjoy short track racing. If they did this every Friday night, I would be here,” said Cicconi about competing on the inner oval at Bridgeport Speedway. With Iles taking second, a strong run by Davis earned him a third place finish. Cogdill’s fourth place run earned him the CTS Lawn Care Hard Charger Award. Veteran racer and longtime Bridgeport Speedway supporter Ron Roberts battled his way to a well-deserved fifth place finish. The heat races were won by Andersen and Cicconi.
