TIEBREAKER: HARTNETT VS. JOHNSON 2 TUESDAY AUGUST 12 AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY 'HOT SUMMER NIGHT' SPECIAL (7-31-14)‏

Tiebreaker: Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Heads To Penn Can Speedway Tuesday, Aug. 12 For Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. ‘Hot Summer Night’ Special; Kevin Hartnett & Danny Johnson Set For Round No. 2; Race Sets Stage For Run To $10,014 Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Championship Run
SUSQUEHANNA, PA – Call it the “tiebreaker” at Penn Can Speedway.
On Tuesday, Aug. 12 (rain date: Aug. 13), in what will likely be the final midweek show contested under the outgoing promotional partnership of Reed Miller and Al Wilcox, Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. presents the ‘Hot Summer Night’ special: 60 laps for the touring big-block/small-block Modifieds of the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP.
The last special event contested on the racy Penn Can Speedway three-eighths-mile oval in June ended with a dead tie between Kevin Hartnett and Danny Johnson. Both are expected to be back on Aug. 12 to continue their battle for another hefty $5,000-plus payday.
Modifieds will compete for $5,000 to win, $1,000 for eighth and $400 to start in the return of the division to Penn Can’s ‘Hot Summer Night’ date.  The last time Modifieds were featured on the ‘Hot Summer Night’ bill was Aug. 10, 2010: the event was won in thrilling fashion by Stewart Friesen, who started 25th and executed a last-lap, three-wide pass of both Alan Rudalavage and Duane Howard using the extreme outside lane.
The ‘Hot Summer Night’ special carries added significance as the fifth event of the six-race Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP. It will be the final 100-point event of the inaugural ’14 series, leading into the year-end Alpine Building Supply Short Track SuperNationals presented by Olum’s Oct. 10-11 at I-88 Speedway in Afton, N.Y.
The Penn Can 60-lapper will set the standings entering the 150-point Championship Event with a $10,014 point title on the line.
Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Modified competitors with perfect attendance entering the Aug. 12 event at Penn Can will be entered into a drawing for a pair of $250 cash prizes. The drawing will take place at the pre-race drivers’ meeting.
The long list of Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP contingency awards and bonuses will be distributed, as well.
Joining the Modifieds on the open-wheel doubleheader are the Dig Safely New York GRIT Series Crate 602 Sportsman, running a 30-lap main for $1,000 to win and $100 just to take the gr een flag.
Gates, grandstand and pit, open at 5 p.m.  The drivers’ meeting is set for 6:20 p.m., with hot laps to follow. Racing gets underway at 7:15 p.m.
Adult admission is $20. Seniors (ages 62 and up) pay $18. Students (ages 13-17) pay $10 and kids 12 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.

Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP events contested thus far in ’14 have been ultra-competitive. Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., opened the season with a victory at Orange County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway in April. Matt Sheppard of Waterloo, N.Y., fought off local star Chad Cook of Deposit, N.Y., to reach Victory Lane in May at Thunder Mountain (N.Y.) Speedway. The most recent victor was low-dollar star Danny Creeden of Wurtsboro, N.Y., who scored a $9,164 payday in the ‘Crazy 8s Special’ at I-88 on July 24.
