SSP Outback Track Summer Shoot-Out Series Friday Night Results
Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune on August 6
Newberrytown, PA (July 26, 2014) – Manchester’s Randy Christine Jr. picked up his fourth victory of the season and second in a row by winning the 25-lap Late Model feature at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday Night at the Silver Spring Speedway Racer Reunion Night. Chris Derr of Donaldson found his way to victory lane after winning his third Street Stock 20-lapper of the season.
Johnny Palm of Ellitottsburg claimed the Xtreme Stock Car 20-lap feature as York’s Ricky Weaver took the checkers in the Road Warrior feature. New Oxford’s Roy Denike won his first Mini Van feature of the season as Michael Gebhart was the Jr. Road Warrior winner. York’s Lucas Montgomery won the 20-lap Legends Cars feature. Santa Claus also made his summertime SSP visit for Christmas in July,
Polesitter Cameron Benyou brought the field to the green for 25-lap Late Model feature. Benyou, competing in his first year as a Late Model driver, took the lead over veterans Randy Christine Jr., Larry Baer and J.R. Rodriguez. Benyou led the first 19 laps until a slight bobble allowed Christine to scoot by. Benyou challenged back, but got into the rear of the leader and spun. On the restart, Rodriguez attempted to challenge Christine for the lead, but could not make the winning pass as Christine took the checkers over Rodriguez. Kyle Martin made a late race runt ot he front to collect third over Chase Billet in fourth and Baer in fifth. Matt Murphy and Martin were the heat race winners.
From outside the front row, Danny Beard took early lead of the Street Stock 20-lap feature. Chris Derr and Jasen Geesaman quickly began applying heavy pressure to Beard. Numerous yellows for single car spins made the job much more difficult for Beard however he continued to drive flawlessly to hold off all challengers on the restarts. On lap 18, contact between Scott Thunberg and Jasen Geesaman caused a 9-car pileup behind them. On the restart, Beard encountered mechanical failure and retired from the race. This handed the lead to Chris Derr with two laps to go as he went on to take the victory over Geesaman. Jimmy Combs finished strong in third, followed by Scott Thunberg and Jason Townsend rounding out the top five. Brian Walls, Danny Beard and Jim Plam Jr. were heat race victors.
The 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event had the Johnny Palm and todd Knaub lead the field to the green flag. On the start, Knaub took the early lead with Palm stalking. On lap 9, Palm was able to get by Knaub for the lead. Knaub stayed close, but was unable to get back by Palm. Plam finished ahead of the Kanub at the finish to take his first win of the season. Knaub settled for second with Patrick McClane taking a podium finish in third. Tim Hahn made a successful return to finish strong in fourth with Jim Jacobs finishing fifth and taking the Madison House Hard Charger award after starting 13th at the beginning of the race. Heat race winners were John Frye and Davey Nester.
Dennis Dorosz took the lead on the start of the Road Warrior 15-lapper with Travis Brown close behind. Ricky Weaver moved into the runner-up spot on lap 5 and began to track down Dorosz. Midway through the race on lap 8 Weaver took the top spot and went on to win the race. Dorosz settled for a strong finish in the runner-up position. Daryl Sipe came across the finish line in third. Tim Osheehan and Brown rounded out the top five. Weaver, Brown and Osheehan were heat race winners.
Roy Denike took the lead at the start of the 12-lap Mini Van feature and never looked back to stop Zakari Kitner’s win streak. Kitner finished second with Darryl Kump claiming third. Richard Wolfe and John Kitner finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Michael Gebhart claimed the 12-lap Junior Road Warrior feature.
Lucas Montgomery bested the field of 13 Legends Cars in the 20-lapper. Bob Stough finished second, followed by Bill Diehl and Travis McClelland. Early leader Chris Transeau rounded out the to five. Stough and Chris Spidle were heat race winners.
