ROBERTS RACING DOMINATES BRIDGEPORT ACTION
Watt Dedicates Win in Grandfather's Memory

It was a banner night of racing for Ron Roberts Racing at the Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night as 2013 Bridgeport Champion, Ryan Watt won his third Spirit Dodge Big Block Modified feature event of the season, crossing the finish line ahead of his car owner and team mate, Ron Roberts.  Sean Gunther was the winner of the first of two fifteen lap feature events for the 811 Dig Safely Crate/Sportsman, driving his family owned car with sponsorship from Roberts Racing.  Gary Hieber Jr. won his career first in the second fifteen lap feature for the Crate/Sportsman while Terry Griffin broke through his string of bad luck to win his first Stewart Stainless Outlaw Stock Feature of the season.

Watt started thirteenth in the twenty-five lap Big Block feature event and had advanced to third by a lap four caution.  Stan Frankenfield led the first three laps but was the reason for the caution as the field headed to the stripe to complete lap four.  Frankenfield lost the handle on his #28F and required the assistance of a tow truck to get back into the pit area.

Dave Witte assumed the lead when the race was restarted on lap four.  Watt challenged but Witte held until the lead until the restart following a lap eight caution.  Witte elected the outside for the restart and Watt stayed even with Witte's Quality Drywall #7 as they raced down the homestretch.  Watt moved out in front as the leaders raced through the corners.  Roberts followed Watt and took over second as Jimmy Horton moved the Lincoln Auto Body #5 up to third.  2012 Track Champion, Rick Laubach took over fourth on the next circuit.

Watt stretched his lead, even while negotiating lapped traffic during the final ten laps.  Roberts led Horton at bay, maintaining a several car length advantage.  Laubach would close in on Horton in the corners but Horton was able to pull way as the pair exited the corners.  With just five laps remaining, Witte ran in fifth while Eric Kormann and Wade Hendrickson battled behind him.

One more caution was needed with four laps left to run when Scott Ambruster came to a stop with twenty-one complete.  Watt was not challenged on the single file restart as he again put some distance between himself and his competition.  Horton challenged Roberts on the restart but Roberts was also able to pull away.  Laubach pressured Horton to the finish as Hendrickson took over fifth with just two laps to go.

Watt led the way to the checkered followed by Roberts, Horton, Laubach and Hendrickson.

It was a very emotional win for Watt who dedicated this victory to his grandfather, Billy Blatt who passed away just one week earlier.  Blatt was always one of his grandson's biggest fans and even at age eighty-five, seldom missed a race.

Rookie graduate, David Crossman led the first three laps of the first of two twin fifteen lap features for the Crate/Sportsman.  Sean Gunther closed in on the leader and was able to complete the pass for the lead following a lap four caution.  Gunther had it all go his way all the way to the checkered has he stretched his lead over second place runner, Steve Searock.  Jesse Hill advanced several positions in the final laps to take third followed by Kris Lilick and Travis Hill at the finish line.

The second fifteen lap Crate/Sportsman feature saw Gary Hieber Jr.  grabbed the lead from polesitter, Kevin Sockriter as the young driver from Langhorne, PA drove to his first ever feature win in a stock car.  Hieber has seen a lot of success in the small cars - Slingshots, SpeedSTRS, etc - but this was his first win in a stock car.  2013 Rookie Champion, Ian Humphreys challenged Hieber in the early going but Humphreys' tactics switched from offense to defense when Jesse Hill came up to challenge for second.   Hieber led the way to the checkered flag followed by Humphreys, Jesse Hill, Kris Lilick and Jesse James Bonaduce.

The misfortune of Tom Wills Jr. was the good fortune for Terry Griffin as Griffin picked up his first win of the season in the Stewart Stainless Outlaw Stock Feature when Wills slowed as the field exited turn four to complete lap eleven.  Griffin was the new race leader.  Griffin led the way to the checkered, a reversal of fortune for Bridgeton, NJ driver who has had more than his share of bad luck this season as well.  Griffin took the checkered with Jeramy Doerr securing second on the last lap.  Ed Tinsman finished third with Jimmy Avery, fourth and David Kramer rounding out the top five.
