MODIFIEDS, MIDGETS, FIREWORKS, AND MORE THIS FRIDAY AT BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY
MINERSVILLE, PA - July 24th, 2014
The final Friday night of racing for the month of July may just be the most action packed yet, with the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, ARDC Midgets, USS Achey Sportsman and Savage 61 Roadrunners all scheduled to see action on the 3/8th mile oval. If that wasn't enough, a spectacular 15 minute fireworks display is also on the schedule.
Current point leader and four time winner Billy Pauch Jr. looks to rebound from last weeks machanical woes, as multi-time track champion Duane Howard and Georgie Stevenson Memorial winner Rick Laubach are right on his heels. Only 55 points separate the top three drivers. It won't be easy for any of the trifecta though, as Frank Cozze, Meme Desantis, and many more are all looking for that first victory of the season at Big Diamond.
The ARDC Midgets come to town led by current point leader Steven Drevicki, three time winner Steve Buckwalter, and a host of others. The midgets always put on an exciting show wherever they race, and Friday night should be no exception. You never know, some Modified drivers have been know to wheel a midget from time to time, could we see this once again Friday night?
The USS Achey Sportsman were not orignally on the schedule for this date, but due to the excessive amount of rainouts this division has incurred during the season, management decided to add them as a non-points event. Anyone who shows up to race the Sportsman will be eligible to draw for a heat race starting spot. Hoosier tires will be required for this event. Can Wayne Witmer make it two in a row after picking off his first ever win last week? It would seem that the fans sure hope so, as that was the biggest victory lane celebration seen in quite some time at the speedway. Early season winner Kevin Beach Jr. looks to get back on track after some bad luck as of late, and Craig Whitmoyer has been fast the past two weeks and may just add to his all-time leading win total in the Sportsman.
Chris Holland and Jeremy Becker look to continue their season long battle in the Roadrunners, as there are only 67 points separting Holland from the top spot. Three time winner Tim Fitzpatrick Jr., two time winner Tom Hablett and others look to add to their win totals, while Jim Kost, Shon Elk, and other past winners still hope to find victory lane before seasons end.
It should be a great night of racing and fun that you do not want to miss. Gates open at 5 PM, warm-ups are at 7:45 PM, and first heat hits the track at 8:15 PM. Pit participation fees are $30 for members and $40 for non-members. General admission for this event is $20.00. Active military with proper ID are FREE! Kids 12 and under are FREE!
Speaking of free, next Friday, August 1st it's time for the second annual FANdemonium. Free grandstand admission for everyone. That's right - FREE! On the card will be the 358 Modifieds, Roadrunners, and XCEL 600 Modifieds. Sorry, no outside food or beverages will be allowed to be brought into the speedway for this event. If you have never been to Big Diamond Speedway, this would be the perfect night to give it a try. If you are a regular, this is our small way of saying "thank you" for your continued support. Hope to see everyone there.
