BARONE HAS TWO STRONG RUNS AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

Sicklerville, NJ (June 2, 2014) –  At the George Wingate Classic on Sunday, May 25 at Bridgeport Speedway, Mike Barone struggled with several engine issues  that affected the performance of his Larry Lombardo powered  Big Block Modified. With the motor problems diagnosed and solved, Barone was able to collect two strong feature finishes at the Gloucester County oval on Saturday, May 31.

To start the night off, the Spirit Dodge Big Block Modifieds competed in the remaining twenty-one laps from the May 3 rain-postponed feature.  Barone restarted this event in eighth place and began to set a fast pace immediately. With a total of six circuits completed in the twenty-five lap feature, Barone had motored into third. “The car felt great right off the bat. The car was a rocket,” remarked the young driver from Hillsborough, NJ.  Barone challenged Tommy Beamer, the eventual second place finisher, several times during the race but could not win the position from Beamer. When the checkered flag waved, Barone was scored in third place behind David Hunt, the winner, and Beamer.

For the regularly scheduled twenty-five lap contest, Barone qualified easily for the event by finishing third in his heat race. Starting thirteenth in the field of twenty-two, Barone dropped back to fifteenth with three laps recorded. Battling a loose race car for a majority of the event, the driver of the 267 Big Block Modified battled his way to an eleventh place finish. “Track was a little bit different. It was a lot drier and it did not have a cushion like the first feature. We missed the setup,” said Barone about the second feature. Barone will be back in action at Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday, June 7 as the Spirit Dodge Big Block Modifieds will be competing in qualifying events prior to a twenty-five lap feature.
