FIRST TIME WINNERS HIGHLIGHT BRIDGEPORT FEATURES
Ambruster Earns First Win of Career
Two weeks ago, Scott Ambruster was one very disappointed driver. After leading the first twenty-one laps of the Spirit Dodge Big Block Modified Feature, Ambruster ended up finishing second to Richie Pratt.
That disappointment was erased when Ambruster powered his way from a twelfth place starting position to take the lead on lap eighteen in Saturday night's Big Block Modified feature event to win the first feature event of his career on a night of racing sponsored by DA's Auto Body & Repair of Feasterville, PA. It was almost a replay of sorts of the race two weeks earlier as Dominic Buffalino led the first seventeen laps before Ambruster took over.
Buffalino grabbed the lead on the start and pulled away from his competition as Ron Roberts ran in second until Ambruster came through following a lap fifteen restart.
Ambruster raced to the checkered flag followed by Pratt, 2012 Bridgeport Champion, Rick Laubach, Buffalino and Roberts.
"I told Keith (Hoffman) that if he gave me a high side I could do it and the track was great tonight," Ambruster stated after his win. "There really was nowhere else to go!"
Bridgewater, NJ driver, Dave Hunt picked up the win in the first Spirit Dodge Big Block Modified Feature, held-over after rain brought a stop to racing May 3rd. Hunt restarted with the lead and led the remaining twenty-one laps of that feature, after waiting nearly a month to conclude the event. Tom Beamer had his best outing of the season in the Thornton #31 as he finished second to Hunt, followed by Mike Barone, Matt Harrell and Richie Pratt.
A strong showing by Pratt, paired with an off night for 2013 Champion, Ryan Watt, moved Pratt into the current point lead.
Shawn Gunther of South Brunswick, NJ picked up his first win since the 2012 season as he piloted his Sammy Beavers owned ride to the win in the 811 Dig Safely Crate/Sportsman Feature. Steve Searock made some late race moves to finish second to Gunther as Travis Hill, Jesse James Bonaduce and Jesse Hill completed the top five after twenty laps.
The Stewart Stainless Outlaw Stocks competed in Twin 12 lap features with Jeramy Doerr and Jimmy Avery each picking up a win. It was Doerr's second win of the season as he took the lead on lap ten from Jack Beaumont. Avery led green to checkered to pick up his first win of the 2014 season in the second twelve lap event.
Rich Deck, Jr. became the fourth different winner in the DA's Auto Body & Repair Rookie features as he raced to the win ahead of David Crossman, Steve Desmelyk, Matthew Peck and Mike Liccardi in the sixth Rookie event of the season.
Racing resumes at the Bridgeport Speedway with quarter mile action on Friday night when the 600cc Micro Sprints compete in Twin 15 lap events in addition to a regular show of 270cc Micros and 4 Cylinders with racing starting at 8pm. On Saturday night, the action moves to the 5/8th mile speedway for the Garden State Vintage Custom Car Show with the Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman and Rookies seeing action in addition to the third race of the season for the Hilborn Tri-State Race Saver Sprint Cars. Saturday night racing action begins at 7pm.
