Bechtelsville, PA – Saturday started out as a normal Saturday with family outings happening in the morning and race day the rest of the day, but this week took a turn. Around noon Dan Green and family ended up at the hospital because Meleny Green, Dan's wife, fell while roller skating and broke her right arm. So with Dan concerned for the well being of his wife, the other members of the team finished up the car, loaded it and took it to the track so he could spend as much time with her as possible.
When Dan got to the track we had time to unload the car, warm the engine and take it to the track for warm-ups. Dan went out in the first group and turned the 5th fastest time. That was because in warm-ups there is no need to pass any cars you just want to see how your car is working and Dan was driving up to the cars in front of him and then just backed off to let them go.
Heat race time and Dan lined up the HOT ROD Processing #46 NASCAR BRC Late Model 5th in the first 8 lap event. The race went non-stop and Dan fell to 6th when Sean Merkel #118 got by on the first lap but Dan passed the #80 of Bill Henning on lap 5 to finish in the 5th spot.
The G & H Motorsports team of Scott Green, Todd Lapp, Bob Higginbotham, Greg Hoffmaster, Cathy Green and Debbie Dutter went to work the get the Rowe's Graphics #46 ready for the feature. Changing tires and a few more other adjustments had the team optimistic that the car would perform as expected.
Rolling out 6th for the 25 lap feature event, Dan took the green in the Ken's Towing #46 and quickly found out the adjustments were the correct ones. Running 5th at the end of lap one, right on the bumper of the fourth place car. On the second lap when Bryan Sipe #33s went for second he made contact with Steve Butler #91 with the #93 of Rick Todrow right behind them, Dan drove to the bottom to move up to 3rd when the caution came out for a couple cars spinning behind them. On the restart Dan followed Sipe for two laps until he made a great move in one and two to get to the inside going down the backstretch to put the AMSOIL #46 in the runner-up spot. The caution came back out for debris on lap 6 to put Dan on the bumper of leader Ron Kline in the #3. After the restart Dan stayed right behind Kline waiting for an opportunity to take over the top spot, that came on lap 11 when Dan dove low in turn two but going just a little to low he clipped the guide rail. Staying in second through turn three and four Sean Merkel went around Dan as he was loosing air in the left front tire. Going into turn one Dan had to slow dramatically and as cars scrabbled behind him, Lou Egrie Sr had no where to go and drove up on the drivers side of the #46 and the two cars came to a stop in turn two. With a lot of body damage and a flat left front tire Dan drove into the pits where the G & H Motorsports team and members of Steve Butler's #91 crew changed the tire and tried to repair the damage but there just wasn't enough time to finish before the race went back to green. Dan ended the night scored in the 17th spot, with that finish Dan is 11th in points only 61 points out of 8th.
After the race the team loaded the car and left the track so Dan could get back to make sure Meleny was as comfortable as possible with her broken arm. Get Well wishes go out to Meleny from the entire G & H Motorsports team.
Dan Green #46 hats and t-shirts are now available, $10.00 each at the race track or you can contact us through the website or Facebook page.
